Session 1

You all meet in a tavern. This place was old in the days of pokemon-drawn carriages. It was among the first structures built when Metro Beach was first colonized, and has survived fires, quakes, legendary pokemon appearances, and countless pokemon battles (these days they encourage such battles be taken to the street outside).
Paintings and photographs depicting its history litter the walls, and the wooden round table you gather around bears a clawed footprint in singed black allegedly delivered by a moltres over a century ago. The thin protective transparent plastic laminate is presumably of more modern origin.
History seeps through the walls, speaking of generations of trainers, some of whom were the very best. At this time of day - around 10 in the morning - there are no other customers present, just a hitmonlee tending the bar. The Team Jaeger handler who is supposed to give you your pokedex and license has not yet shown up, but clearly this is the group you were supposed to meet.
The younger trainers are gathered in a more traditional location, but as your group is a little older, this tavern was designated for your meeting. All eyes, past and present, are upon you. Perhaps you should introduce yourselves.
Samantha Spade looks around the group.
Samantha Spade: "Anna! You made it!"
[OOC] Isabella: A pokemon game…that starts in a tavern
Anna Tomize opens her mouth, then closes it, then opens it.
Jack Layfield is twitching in his seat, totally unable to sit still.
Anna Tomize: "Y-y-yush…"
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah. Couldn't resist, since it actually is appropriate to this group.
[OOC] Isabella: …how, exactly
Samantha Spade puts her finger to her nose and stares at Jack for a moment.
Max Thorn: "Mornin'. I'm Max. I do pokéballs and science relating to pokémon. You folks?"
Samantha Spade: "I've seen you before, somewhere…"
[OOC] WC GM: You're older than the "meet at the pokemon lab" types, and this is basically just a restaurant. Actually, this scene is pretty similar to the meet-the-group scene in Pokemon X/Y - so far as that aspect goes, anyway.
Samantha Spade: "…but I'm pretty sure we've never met. Well!"
Samantha Spade: "I'm Sam Spade, and I'm the hardest-boiled detective in our loose age category."
Jack Layfield looks back at Samantha in surprise. "Seen me before? Ridiculous, I've never even been to the Sky City airport!"
Samantha Spade: "Of course you haven't, my friend. Of course you haven't."
Esme sits forward, leaning on her elbows. She waves to the other trainers. "Esmé here!"
Anna Tomize gulps.
Anna Tomize: "Ah-ah'm Amma…U-uh, I mean, Anna…"
Anna Tomize nervously adjusts her glasses.
Esme: "I am a…" She pauses. "Ah, how you say, chemist?"
A tiny pokémon peeks out from behind a blue flower tucked behind Max's left ear and squeaks.
Isabella seems far more interested in playing with her ralts than the conversation around her
Jack Layfield: "I'm Jack and I have no idea what Sam is talking about. I do extreme sports n pokemon battles, well, I want too." The Sandile sitting on Jack's head nods in agreement.
Max Thorn: "Nice sandile you've got there, Jack."
Jack Layfield: "Sandy's been a friend for a long time."
Samantha Spade: "Um. What's that…green and white pokemon called?"
Samantha Spade addresses that one to Izzy.
Isabella: "Hm? Oh…this is a ralts…"
Samantha Spade: "Huh. Looks kind of like a person, only…"
Sandy: "Sandile!" Sandy pats Jack on the head.
Malta: "Cheep!"
Jack Layfield: "What type is a Salts?"
Samantha Spade scratches her fletchling's head.
Max Thorn: "It's a fairy-type, like Antheia here, but also a psychic-type."
Isabella: "Psychic…fairy…"
Anna Tomize pats her Mareep.
Anna Tomize: "D-dees iz Meeps…"
Samantha Spade: "Hey, Meeps. Long time, no see."
Meeps shifts under Anna's hand.
Esme peers at all the pokemon about. "Ah, you all have interesting partners! We don't get this much variety back home."
Jack Layfield: "Cool! Sandy's a dark and ground type. And she's super fast! Well, for a Sandile, Which are faster than you think but not that fast. Fastish fast."
Max Thorn: "Oh? I suppose 'back home' does the usual 'pick a fire, grass, or water' spiel?"
Meeps: "Maaaah."
Esme: "That's a thing?"
Meeps shuffles its front feet in the most adorable threat display to Samantha.
Max Thorn: "In most regions outside of Amoda, yes."
Max Thorn: "So…I wonder when that Team Jaeger guy's gonna show up."
There is a beeping from…somewhere nearby, then a gentle artificial voice intones, "When cold weather increases static electricity, its wool doubles in size and the tip of its tail glows slightly."
Esme perks.
Anna Tomize looks around
Anna Tomize: "Whuh-whuz talkin?"
Jack Layfield: "Duuuuuude, is that a pokedex?"
A higher pitched voice mumbles, "…calibrated. Hmph. Heeey, down here - oh, maybe I should get out from under…"
Max Thorn turns his head toward the voice and squints.
Samantha Spade leans back to see under the table.
A boy in a Team Jaeger uniform - that, or the youngest Team Jaeger minion you have ever seen - walks out from under the table.
Samantha Spade: "You weren't trying to look up these dames' skirts, were you?"
TJBoy: "Good, you made it on time. I am your handler."
Max Thorn: "…You're a little short to be a TJ minion."
TJBoy: "…I'm thirteen! (In a month.)"
Jack Layfield: "My man, I hope I didn't accidentally kick you with my roller skates. That would have been totally not rad."
Isabella clutches the ralts before he steals the kid's hat
Max Thorn: "…"
Max Thorn: "…You're a little /young/ to be a TJ minion, too."
Anna Tomize leans over her handler and tilts her head.
Anna Tomize: "Yer sum child…"
TJBoy: "That's what the others say too. But not the boss! He says I gots to go get experience."
TJBoy: "So he says I'm your minder. So, here." He begins handing out pokedexes and licenses.
Jack Layfield: "So we're make-work then?"
Max Thorn: "Huh. Well, if your boss says so, I guess I can't argue with that."
Jack Layfield takes his dex and license.
Isabella: "I suppose…not everyone waits to start their adventure…"
Esme: "Experience usually /is/ the best teacher."
Anna Tomize takes the strange red pokedex before squeaking when it beeps at her.
Max Thorn accepts his card and pokédex, slipping the one into a pocket and the other into his wallet.
Gulping, she turns back and takes her license.
Samantha Spade does the same.
Esme accepts her dex and license, eyeing the Jaeger flunkie as she does so.
Isabella contains the klepto ralts with one hand and accepts her things with the other
TJBoy: "I'm older than most of those getting their licenses today!"
Anna Tomize: "Ah'm sixteen…"
Samantha Spade: "Me, too."
Esme: "Seventeen, yes?"
Jack Layfield: "You gotta chillax and go with the flow, stop worrying about it Jaeger kid."
Max Thorn looks around. "…Oi. Am I the only adult here?"
Isabella: "Well I'm…seventeen…"
The license proves to be a thick laminated card, a backup to the pokedex which contains the electronic version of the license. Or perhaps not just a backup; the license opens up into a gym badge case, with enough room for all 18 badges and then some, with cramped packing.
Samantha Spade: "Don't worry, old man, you haven't proven you're an adult yet."
Jack Layfield: "I'm sixteen and loving it. I can finally drive!"
Anna Tomize: "Sixteen is an adawlt…"
Anna Tomize: "…I t'ink…"
Samantha Spade: "Most places! Some places. Anyway, we're about to start our Pokemon journey!"
Jack Layfield: "Depends on the region and how freaken cool it is about stuff."
Samantha Spade: "No need to agonize about whether we put it off for too long."
Max Thorn mutters something about having to set an example, then sighs.
Samantha Spade: "So, kid, what's your name?"
Jack Layfield: "Put it off? I was just busy being radical!'
TJBoy: "Tim!"
Samantha Spade: "Okay, Tim. We have these licenses…"
Max Thorn: "Did your boss have anything else for us, or just the card'n'dex?"
Samantha Spade: "…which means we can have up to two more Pokemon apiece, right?"
Tim: "And this is my partner, Sandy." He opens a pokeball, which lets out a sandshrew.
Samantha Spade: "…Huh."
Samantha Spade: "That's quite a few Sandies in one small place."
Max Thorn assesses the sandshrew…
Jack Layfield: "Tim, if you're going to be around me, we need to work this out. We can't call both our pokemon Sandy."
Sandy: "Dile. Dile."
Tim: "…oh. Sandy…err, MY Sandy, what do you think?"
SandshrewSandy: "Sands?"
Tim: "Okay! You get to be Sands!"
Esme: "Ground types are popular."
[OOC] Samantha Spade: <Tim probably> "My Sandy says that I'm a Jaeger and you're a wannabe and you get to suck it!"
Tim looks up at Jack. "That work?"
Max Thorn pinches the bridge of his nose.
Sandile: "Sandile!"
[OOC] WC GM: You'd think that's how he should act…
Jack Layfield: "Sandile seems to like it."
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Eh, who knows~
Anna Tomize: "…Jaggies with Shroo…w-why d'you all have Sandjaggies?"
Tim: "'Cause they're from back home?"
Samantha Spade: "So, kid, how many Pokemon do you have? Do you have the full six, cuz you're in Team Jaeger?"
Tim looks down. "No, I haven't got any but Sands here. The boss says I need to keep my team empty for now."
Samantha Spade: "Oh."
Tim: "He's th' boss so I do what he says."
Tim: "Th' others say I gots a special reason but won't tell me why."
Samantha Spade lets a frown flash on her face as she processes information, but immediately wipes that with an empty-headed grin.
Esme: "Perhaps he is preparing you for something bigger, yes?"
Isabella: "Well…it's not so bad…just means you get to spend more time with sandshrew, right?"
Tim: "Maybe? So I'm s'pposed to have you do a pokemon battle for introduction. Thennn…oh, right, the gym…wait, no, pokemon center then the gym. Then there's something after that. But battle first!"
Samantha Spade: "Okay! You ready, Malta?"
Jack Layfield: "Slammin' little dude, who are we battlin?"
Malta: "Cheep! CHEEP."
Max Thorn: "Perhaps we should step outside first?"
At the mention of "battle" , the hitmonlee bartender looks up and points out the front door.
Tim: "Each other. To get to know each other."
Samantha Spade: "Ooookay, stepping outside it is."
Max Thorn: "It is, after all, what the 'tender wants."
Tim: "Three on three."
Anna Tomize gulps. O-OK…
Jack Layfield: "Should we draw straws?"
Samantha Spade stands up and leads the way outside.
Max Thorn stands and starts walking toward the door. Antheia chirps, her nervousness evident.
Jack Layfield: "This is exactly what me and Sandile have been training for! Awesome, fast battles!"
Samantha Spade: "I'm not saying, for the record, that I'm afraid that if Meeps beats Malta he'll proceed to fry me."
Esme frowns. "Gervy was tired from the journey, so I was letting him rest. I suppose it would wake him up though…" She rises, making her way outside with the others.
Isabella: "Oh…I think talking is a perfectly good way to get to know someone…battling someone for no reason just seems…mean."
Tim shrugs. "Pick your sides. I'll pick for you if you want?"
Sandy: "SANDILE!" Sandile does a little dance on Jack's head.
Anna Tomize flinches at the Sandile's dance and shrinks behind her Mareep.
Tim: "That's how it is for us humans, but pokemon like battling. Just…don't let them get TOO injured."
Max Thorn: "Be unfair for me to pit Antheia against Sandy…"
Jack Layfield: "Only if Antheia gets a move in."
Jack Layfield winks
Max Thorn: "She knows a grass move."
Tim heads out the door with the others. The street outside has no traffic - though a few blocks away you can hear battles, apparently from the other groups.
Gabriel waves to Max…'s ear.
Jack Layfield: Once outside, Jack immediately starts skating around, circling round the group in excitement.
Samantha Spade: "What is Antheia, any- ooh, I forgot about this thing…"
Samantha Spade pulls out her pokedex and lines the camera up with Max's head.
Pokedex: "Flabebe, the flower pokemon. It draws out and controls the hidden power of flowers. The flower Flabébé holds is most likely part of its body. "
Samantha Spade: "Oooh, and she's a cute little one, too."
Sandy leans in with jack when he turns, adding to Jack's momentum.
Esme pulls out a pokeball, and bounces it off the ground, producing a Nidoran. "Alright Gervais, looks like we're having a battle."
[OOC] Samantha Spade: No need to include <Sandy> there, but better with a space between the asterisk and the name.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: ah
Gervais shakes himself awake, letting out a yawn.
Sandy leaps off Jacks head at the apex of a turn, ready to battle.
Tim's sandshrew perks up, but Tim holds an arm in front. "We're sitting this one out, Sands."
Samantha Spade: "So, how are we doing this? Flipping coins? Letting the kid decide?"
Isabella: "If sandshrew wants to play, we can just watch…"
Anna Tomize makes biiiig eyes at Tim.
Tim looks a bit intimidated by Anna. "Y-yes?"
Anna Tomize: "Pliss…can ah be wit de Nidoran lady?"
Tim gulps. "Uh, s-sure? If you want."
Samantha Spade: "I don't want to be on the other team from Meeps, just in case, so I'll be with them."
Anna Tomize: "Yaay~ Dank'yuu!"
Anna Tomize wanders over to Esme's side.
Samantha Spade: "So it's Malta, Meeps, and…Gervais, was it?"
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Team status ailments, GO!
Tim: "Okay, so! Esme, Anna, and Sam, versus Isabella, Max, and Jack!"
Samantha Spade: "Go on, Malta! Show them what you can do!"
Jack finally stops next to his new partners
Malta: "Cheep! Cheep."
Tim: "I will act as referee! This battle will conclude when all of one side's pokemon are unable to battle!"
Isabella: "I guess we get to play again, Antheia…"
Malta flutters over to where Meeps and Gervais are.
Tim: "Take your places!"
Isabella sets Gabe down, he promptly totters right over to the other pokemon
Jack Layfield: "Sandile, you ready for this? Don't let them outpace you!"
Esme: "Ah, are there any other rules?"
Sandy: "Sandile." Sandy nods
Max Thorn holds a hand up for Antheia to hop on to, then gently tosses her into the air, the flower allowing her to float into place.
Sandy darts over next to it's new partners.
Tim: "And, begin!"
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So, turn order is, uh…
[OOC] Max Thorn: Highest to lowest Speed
[OOC] WC GM: Sam, Izzy, Jack, & Max, roll 1d20 each for initiative.
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 12 (12)
[OOC] Esme: Not quite, actually
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 10 (10)
Samantha Spade rolled up 1d20: 4 (4) (Initiative for Sam)
[OOC] WC GM: Anna/Meeps is highest, followed by Esme/Gabriel. Below that we have 2 ties.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: A-ah'm highest? But Meeps only speed 2!
Jack Layfield: (So does Sandy's speed count for nothing?)
Jack Layfield: (Sandy has speed 16)
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Trainers first.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Also, for initiative, Sam has 14.
Jack Layfield: (Also, does trainer speed effect initiative?
[OOC] Max Thorn: er, how is Anna highest? her speed's 6.
[OOC] WC GM: Oh, wait, misread…
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Hahaha.
[OOC] WC GM: Pokemon speed only, since this is league combat.
[OOC] Esme: Initiative is just your straight speed stat
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah
[OOC] Jack Layfield: so Sandy has 16 right? And is therefore first?
[OOC] WC GM: Actually, yeah, Esme needs to roll too
[OOC] Max Thorn: Meeps would go dead last.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Unless you have an Edge which boosts it, which Sam does. Also, Trainers can still act in League combat.
[OOC] Esme: If League Combat, trainers declare from low to high, then resolve from high to low, but all trainer actions still go before Pokemon
Esme rolled up 1d20: 20 (20)
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Not that, this being League combat, most of us have much to do at this point. Samantha's just going to be cheering Malta on.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I have stat link aaaaaand that's it…
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So it should go Sandile-Fletchling-Flabebe+Ralts-Nidoran-Mareep
[OOC] WC GM: Still waiting in Isabella's roll
[OOC] Esme: Everyone has something to do, because you have a Training feature you can use as Orders.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Right.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: This is true! I forgot about that.
[OOC] Isabella: /roll 1d20 right?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Meeps is going to thunder wave flabebe.
[OOC] WC GM: .roll 1d20
Isabella rolled up 1d20: 14 (14)
[OOC] WC GM: Jack/Sandy, Sam/Malta, Izzy/Gabriel, Max/Antheia, Esme/Gervais, Anna/Meeps, then?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Anna, in turn, is going to fire offer inspired training.
[OOC] WC GM: Trainer actions then pokemon actions.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Do I need to roll for thunder wave? It has no accuracy check.
[OOC] WC GM: So! Everyone declare trainer actions, if any, first.
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah, Thunder Wave doesn't roll to hit. It says, "Thunder Wave cannot miss".
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Sam's gonna cheer Malta, and remind Malta to stay focused!
Esme: "Stay focused, Gervy!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Okay, Jack uses Stat Link (speed) to raise Sandy's speed one combat stage.
Jack Layfield: "Sandy, PUMP IT UP!"
Samantha Spade: "Eyes on the foe, Malta!"
Jack Layfield jabs at the air with his fists
[OOC] Esme: Can't do that till after the Pokemon's turn
Max Thorn: "Antheia, get your groove on!"
Anna Tomize leans forward and yelps out: "M-Meeps! M-m-make 'em awl go away!"
Samantha Spade has a fierce look on her face, but anyone who looks at her hands sees they're clenched tight and her knuckles are white.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Agility Orders, fwiw
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Applying inspired training, and using it to trigger Cheerleader to apply excited on Meeps.
[OOC] Isabella: Is doesn't have any combat moves so just Gabe's action
[OOC] Max Thorn: You do have a combat move. See: Focused Training.
[OOC] Esme: This isn't a full contact fight, you wouldn't be able to use em anyway
[OOC] Esme: So use Orders
[OOC] Anna Tomize: You have a training action right? Everyone gets one.
[OOC] Isabella: Oh, yeah, focused
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Oh hey, Speed link is a free action that just costs AP. I think that means I can trigger agility training as well to make sandy agile
[OOC] WC GM: I think that's why everyone gets a free training feature: so the trainers have something to do in league combats even at level 1.
[OOC] Esme: Yup.
[OOC] WC GM: Alright, all trainers acted? Sandy's turn!
Jack Layfield: "Sandy, use Thunder fang on Flechling!"
Samantha Spade: "No! Malta!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: So how do I do this?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: First you roll accuracy, IIRC
[OOC] WC GM: Roll 1d20 vs. AC of the move.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Isn't it AC+Target evasion?
[OOC] WC GM: …assuming you know target evasion, which won't be always.
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 8 (8) (Greater than 3)
[OOC] Esme: And which Evasion they apply.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: In this case, only one Evasion applies, which would be her Speed, 2.
[OOC] WC GM: Which will presumably be the greatest applicable.
[OOC] WC GM: Speed and Special evasions apply, but Speed is greater.
[OOC] Esme: Mmhm
[OOC] Jack Layfield: So do I hit?
[OOC] Esme: Thunder Fang is Physical 8D
[OOC] WC GM: Or is it Speed and Physical in this case? Either way, Speed is greater.
[OOC] Esme: Presumably
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah, that's a hit. Does STAB apply?
[OOC] Esme: Nope
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Nope, it's an electric type move
[OOC] Max Thorn: Electric from a Ground/Dark? :p
[OOC] WC GM: K, so roll damage.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Egg moves baby
[OOC] WC GM: Just going through the checklist. :P
Jack Layfield: (Dat type coverage))
[OOC] Esme: So now, .roll 2d6+10[+atk], so .roll 2d6+21
[OOC] WC GM: Roll damage, add attack/special attack, subtract opponent's defense/special defense, apply type weakness/resistance.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Damage is damage base 7 right?
[OOC] WC GM: It's what's listed on your sheet.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Defense 9, and I believe weak to Electricity…
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d6+21: 28 (28)
[OOC] Esme: So 28-9, 19, x1.5 for weak, …28 damage 8D
[OOC] WC GM: ^
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Ouch.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: …That's…how many Injuries?
[OOC] WC GM: Wait, no. *2 for weak.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: At least it didn't paralyze or flinch you.
[OOC] Esme: That's in the games
[OOC] Esme: "A Super-Effective hit will deal x1.5 damage."
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, right.
[OOC] WC GM: Requires doubly-weak for *2 here.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: That did more than 50% of her health, so 2 Injuries as well.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: PTU is supposed to be slightly less rocket tag than normal pokemon
Samantha Spade: "Malta, no!"
[OOC] WC GM: 1 injury, not 2.
[OOC] WC GM: For > 50% in one hit.
[OOC] Esme: Nah, it's 2
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Is there not one for dropping below 50% health?
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, right.
[OOC] Esme: 1 for Massive Damage, 1 for going below 50%
[OOC] WC GM: One for < 50%, one for 50% in one hit.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Swhat I thought.
[OOC] WC GM: Alright. With that done…Malta's revenge!
Jack Layfield: "Keep it up Sandy!"
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Can we pick off the Ralts?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Nidoran and I will status the sandile if it attacks us
Isabella: "That wasn't very nice…"
Max Thorn: "…It's a /battle/. Being polite means you'll lose."
Samantha Spade: "Forget about Sandy for now, Malta! Tackle the Ralts!"
Samantha Spade rolled up 1d20+3: 19 (19)
Isabella: "But he didn't do anything…"
[OOC] WC GM: Hit, roll damage.
[OOC] WC GM: BTW, it will usually be faster if you roll AC and damage at the same time. If it's a miss the damage roll doesn't mean anything.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: STAB apply for a Normal using a Normal move?
Jack Layfield: "They want to pick off our strongest hitter first. Sandile is fast, but can only hit them up close."
[OOC] WC GM: I do believe so.
[OOC] Esme: Yes. STAB is just +2 DB, so I'd suggest precalcing that in the future.
[OOC] Esme: Since it just changes what dice you roll for like, forever.
Samantha Spade rolled up 2d10+15: 25 (25)
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Got it.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: …wait a second…
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Why did you add +3 for accuracy?
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Ah, the sheet already did that…
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Because Malta has [Focused] which is +1 accy and the move has an AC of 2, which in retrospect may have been backwards.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Also, the sheet ALREADY included the STAB.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: AC of 2 isn't a bonus
[OOC] Samantha Spade: So damage would be…
[OOC] Jack Layfield: It's what you're rolling against.
[OOC] WC GM: AC 2 is your target, not a bonus.
Samantha Spade rolled up 2d6+15: 18 (18)
[OOC] WC GM: So you actually rolled 17 to hit. 17 > 2 = hit.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Yeah, well, I still made it handily.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: 17>2+whatever evasion was used
[OOC] WC GM: Gabriel has a defense of 3, not strong or weak vs. normal, so 15 damage.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: And Gabriel takes 18 damage.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Er, modified, of course.
[OOC] WC GM: 15 < 50% of 36, so no injuries.
[OOC] WC GM: Gabriel's turn!
[OOC] Isabella: let's see if I can remember everything
Isabella rolled up 1d20: 10 (10)
[OOC] WC GM: That's a hit. Roll damage.
[OOC] Isabella: @ Gervais
[OOC] WC GM: Also, which move?
[OOC] Jack Layfield: What move?
[OOC] Esme: What's it doing?
[OOC] Isabella: Confusion, so…
Isabella rolled up 1d8+8: 9 (9)
[OOC] Isabella: Fuck me
[OOC] WC GM: Actually, STAB applies and you didn't have that on sheet.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: both stab and your special attack
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Who are you targeting also?
[OOC] WC GM: So it's actually DB7, for 2d6+10 - and then special attack, for total 2d6+20.
[OOC] Isabella: So 9 + 10 +…2? + poison weakness against nidoran.
[OOC] WC GM: She said Gervais.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Ah
[OOC] Esme: Weakness is applied long after you roll
[OOC] WC GM: Poison weakness applies after the roll.
[OOC] WC GM: So, roll 2d6+20.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Quick question.
[OOC] Esme: Sup
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Is Ralts adjacent to the Nidoran?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: The Nidoran knows sucker punch and could use it as an interrupt.
Isabella rolled up 2d6+20: 24 (24)
[OOC] Esme: Could be, but prolly not, since Confusion is range 6
[OOC] WC GM: ^
[OOC] Anna Tomize: OK.
[OOC] Esme: 28 damage, 2 injuries
[OOC] WC GM: ^
[OOC] Max Thorn: and also the ralts isn't being targeted, the nidoran is.
[OOC] WC GM: Antheia's turn!
Max Thorn: "Antheia, go undercover!" ((Camouflage))
Antheia becomes Normal type!
[OOC] WC GM: Gervais, you're up!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Finish off the Ralts with Peck, maybe?
Gervais shifts up to the Ralts who was so kind to shoot it with psychic beams. It smiles before immediately flipping into a kick. [Sucker Punch]
[OOC] Esme: Sucker Punch is At-Will. It MAY be used as an Interrupt, but also works as a straight move.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Is it? That's good, then.
Esme rolled up 1d20+2: 18 (18) ((vs AC 2))
Esme rolled up 2d8+22: 32 (32)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: oh geeze
[OOC] WC GM: That's enough for a KO, I believe?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I think so, yes.
[OOC] WC GM: 29 after defense before type, and only had 21 HP remaining.
Gabriel faints!
[OOC] WC GM: Meeps!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I'm gonna be firing thunderwave at the Flabebe lemme just narrate it
Meeps stomps its front hooves aggressively, rubbing its tail on its fur. After a moment, it stops, glares at Flabebe, and baahs out a long "MEEEEP" .
[OOC] Anna Tomize: No need to roll for damage or anything, the move just works, yes?
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Right
Antheia stutters a squeak as she finds herself palsied!
[OOC] WC GM: That's what Thunder Wave says.
Anna Tomize: "Y-yeah! Gooo Myeeps!"
Anna Tomize looks like she's enjoying this despite herself.
[OOC] WC GM: Alright. turn 2. Antheia, roll 1d20 for the Save Check to shake off paralysis.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Actually, at end of turn, _now_ stat link triggers
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 13 (13)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: And Jack spends an AP to raise Sandile's speed one combat stage
[OOC] Max Thorn: This is also when Camouflage triggers.
[OOC] WC GM: …someone double check me, but I think 13 shakes off paralysis?
[OOC] Max Thorn: DC 5, so yes.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yes. Also slows it, IIRC
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Erm, it can act normally, it doesn't shake it off
[OOC] Max Thorn: For the turn, that is.
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, that explains why it's that low.
[OOC] Esme: Do note the -4 Speed CS
[OOC] WC GM: Anyway, trainer actions!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah Paralysis stays even if you pass the save.
[OOC] Esme: So the Flabebe acts with a speed of… 5
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Jack uses Agility training again to raise Sandy's movement capabilities by +1 for the turn and increasing initiative by 4 again
[OOC] WC GM: -4 Speed CS means Antheia's turn comes after Gervais's.
[OOC] WC GM: Same training actions as last time?
Samantha Spade: "Keep an eye on them, Malta, stay focused! I know you've got it in you!"
Jack Layfield: "Push youself sandile! Don't let them gang up on Flabebe!"
Max Thorn: "Keep on groovin', girl!" ((Agility Training))
Max Thorn rolled up (13 + 4) * .6: 10.2
Esme claps for Gervais. "A little rough there, Gervy, but keep it up!"
Anna Tomize: "M-Meeps! Keep going!"
[OOC] Max Thorn: or…
Max Thorn rolled up 13 * .6: 7.8
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Anna reserves her action.
[OOC] WC GM: Once trainer actions are done, Sandy's turn.
[OOC] Esme: What
[OOC] Max Thorn: I don't know which number to use, the 10 or the 7. Presumably the 7.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Agility Training gives Agile, which gives +4 initiative.
Jack Layfield: "Sandile, Thunder Fang, one more time on Fletchling!"
Samantha Spade: "You-"
Samantha Spade bites her lip.
[OOC] Esme: Yes, which is… different. Flabebe has a speed of 9, modified by -4 CS [x.6] puts it at 5. Then you get your double Agile for +8, total init of 13.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Making Nidoran faster than it, yeh. :3
[OOC] Max Thorn: aha.
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 11 (11) (Accuracy 3)
[OOC] Esme: So nope! Still slow-go Nidonido.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: so hits again
[OOC] WC GM: Yep. Damage?
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d6+21: 23 (23)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Snakeyes, rats
Malta is down and out!
[OOC] WC GM: That's still enough.
[OOC] WC GM: Malta's out, so Gabriel!
Samantha Spade bites her lip and calls Malta back to her Pokeball.
[OOC] WC GM: …wait, Gabriel's out too.
Sandile is getting fired up!
Anna Tomize frowns and glares at the Sandile.
Samantha Spade: "It'll be okay, Malta…"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Sandile gets +1 combat stage from moxie
Isabella retrieves Gabriel
[OOC] WC GM: I believe Gervais wound up faster than Antheia?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yes.
[OOC] WC GM: Gervais, then!
[OOC] Esme: I like, just did the math to show that naw, with my speed of 8, Gervy is still slower than Antheia who is getting doubled Agile Training bonuses :p
[OOC] WC GM: Ah so. Antheia then!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Oh. Huh.
[OOC] Esme: Flat +8 added to halved speed > 8
Max Thorn: "Antheia, go smack Meeps for that insult!"
Max Thorn rolled up 2d6+13: 22 (22)
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 12 (12) (oops, forgot this)
[OOC] WC GM: Tackle, I assume?
[OOC] Max Thorn: yup.
[OOC] Max Thorn: DB 5 → 7 (STAB), +3 ATK because lol.
The attack seems to mostly bounce off Meeps' fluff, though it does leave a brief mark.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Not so fast!)
[OOC] Esme: TRAP CARD
Jack Layfield: (Static right?)
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Meeps activates its excited condition to apply 5 damage reduction to the attack.
Jack Layfield: (Dang you to heck meeps)
[OOC] WC GM: …which brings the total damage after everything down to 8.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Static wouldn't trigger, Antheia's already paralysed.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah
[OOC] WC GM: Gervais!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: But Meeps CAN cut the damage by 5.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So, Meeps takes how much?
[OOC] WC GM: 8. It was 13 before that.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Alright.
[OOC] WC GM: So yeah: mostly bounces off the fluff.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So, Meeps is at 40/48.
[OOC] WC GM: Yep.
Samantha Spade: "Once again, I am reminded of just how dangerous that little fluffball is."
[OOC] Jack Layfield: uh wait
Meeps MareEeEeEps at the attack angrily and adjusts its footing. It looks tough.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Meeps would have actually had to have already used reflect to get that damage reduction
[OOC] Anna Tomize: No. Anna can apply it when she uses Orders.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: It can apply off reflect, too, but Orders work fine also.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Oh god right, you have excited, d'oh
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah!
[OOC] Jack Layfield: God meeps is tanky
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yesh!
[OOC] WC GM: Slow but tough is Meeps' build.
[OOC] WC GM: In an emergency, duck behind the Meeps.
Gervais rushes towards that sandile, and dives onto him! [Grapple]
[OOC] Anna Tomize: It doesn't have its special attacks yet, but soon it will.
Esme rolled up 1d20+2: 6 (6)
[OOC] WC GM: Though I think Anna would object to people wielding Meeps as a shield?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Oh gosh grapple
[OOC] Esme: Actually that misses I think
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Meeps doesn't care. It's sort of full of itself.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Sandile has +3 speed agility
[OOC] Jack Layfield: So I think it does?
[OOC] Esme: Yup, +3 Speed Evasion, so whiff!
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah, that's a miss. Meeptank, you're up!
[OOC] Samantha Spade: And grapple is AC 4 I think, so yeah
Anna Tomize: "Meeps! Ya've gotsta save Nido!"
Meeps moves next to Nidoran and Sandile, and uses reflect.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Remember, Meeps has friend guard. Allies next to it resist attacks one stage further.
[OOC] WC GM: Turn 3. Trainer actions?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Also because Meeps used reflect, it re-applies excited.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Jack agility training's again. Though not a huge point to it though. Soooooo fast
Esme winces as Gervais takes a dive. "Not sure what you were going for there, but keep at it!" [Focused Training]
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 2 (2) (DC 5 to act)
Jack Layfield: "Keep them on their toes, don't let them recover!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Ruh roh
[OOC] Esme: Well if you needed to move about, +1 to Movement capabilities would totally be a thing. But yeah, you're pretty much going first.
Max Thorn: "C'mere, Antheia…" Max uses a Paralyze Heal on Antheia.
Anna Tomize: "Meeps! Hold strong!"
[OOC] WC GM: Sandy!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Anna re-uses inspired training. Meeps takes the motivated perk.
Jack Layfield: "Sandile, Use bite on nidoran! Meeps is all defense!"
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 18 (18) (accuracy 2)
[OOC] Max Thorn: that's a Flinch
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Sweet, it's a flinch
A Glint in Gervais' eyes! He rushes into the attack, ramming at the Sandile! [SUCKER PUNCH]
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Poison resists dark, right?
[OOC] Esme: Interrupt, son
[OOC] WC GM: Flinches, but damage resisted twice -> 0 damage?
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Nope
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So it's 2x resisted.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Poison does not resist dark
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Oh, no? Alright.
[OOC] Esme: Poison doesn't resist dark, and this resolves before that hits
Esme rolled up 1d20+2: 20 (20)
[OOC] Esme: Dark resists dark though!
Esme rolled up 2d8+22: 35 (35)
[OOC] Esme: So 15 Damage, then your bite goes through
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Bite triggers poison point.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: 15 damage is < 50% sandile's hp, so no injuries?)
[OOC] Esme: It's true!
[OOC] WC GM: The action was already being taken when poison point triggered, so no poison damage this turn?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I'd need to check, but I think that's RAW in PTU.
[OOC] Esme: Poison triggers at the end of the turn
[OOC] Esme: So yes, actually
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Isn't it triggered on actions in PTU?
[OOC] Esme: Wait, nah, you're right
[OOC] WC GM: On action, yeah.
[OOC] Esme: Carry on!
[OOC] Jack Layfield: So with STAB it's DB 8 right? which is?
[OOC] WC GM: OTOH, Flinch doesn't carry over turns, so the flinch doesn't do anything.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Rassle frassle freaking sucker punch bullshit
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So Sandile loses 3 HP/Turn, and is at 24/39 HP.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Gotcha
[OOC] WC GM: 3 HP/turn starting next turn.
[OOC] Esme: Yeah DB8. Again, for future reference, if you have STAB, just go ahead and write the modified DB on your sheet; it isn't changing any time soon.
[OOC] Esme: And -2 SpDef stages
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Yes, but what _is_ DB8?
[OOC] WC GM: The Bite is fully resisted, no? 50% for Protect, 50% for friend Guard?
[OOC] Esme: Bite - Damage Base 6: 2d6+8 / 15
[OOC] WC GM: DB8 = 2d8+10
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Assuming that Esme uses the reflect
[OOC] Esme: Double resist is 1/4 damage
[OOC] Esme: And yes >_>
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, K.
[OOC] WC GM: So roll damage.
[OOC] Esme: Applied after all the fun modifiers and errthing
[OOC] WC GM: 2d8+21 total
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+23 : 35 (35)
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I believe that the way protect and friend guard work is that they change resist multipliers
Jack Layfield: (+23, sandile got a combat stage of attack from moxie))
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Reflect, not protect
[OOC] Anna Tomize: And I think in PTU two stage resist is 50%
[OOC] WC GM: Nah, 2 stage resist is 25%
[OOC] WC GM: Page 238
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Oh, excellent.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: In retrospect, I should have gone for Meeps.
[OOC] WC GM: So, 35 - 6 = 29, 29/4 rounds down to 7 damage
[OOC] Esme: honk honk honk
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah, that poison's gonna be nasty and you're going to have to work through it when you try to break down Meeps defenses.
Gervais endures the blow!
[OOC] Jack Layfield: This is some bullshit
[OOC] WC GM: Antheia's action was taken by paralyze heal, Gervais just did action, so Meeps!
Meeps, having made its presence on the battlefield clear, gives a low throaty growl.
[OOC] WC GM: If it's any consolation, Gervais is < 25% HP. Red bar w/warning tone if pokedex analysis is up.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Meeps uses growl.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: It's AOE and friendly, lowers all legal targets attack 1 stage.
[OOC] WC GM: So, hits Sandy and Antheia.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yes.
[OOC] WC GM: Turn 4! Trainer actions.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Need to roll accuracy
Anna Tomize rolled up 1d20: 11 (11)
Samantha Spade: "That's right, Meeps! Show them the fury of the sheep!"
[OOC] WC GM: Oh, right, it's not auto-hit.
[OOC] WC GM: But that's a hit.
Antheia shudders, terrified.
Esme: "Hang in there Gervy!"
Max Thorn: "Keep on groovin', Antheia!"
[OOC] Anna Tomize: So Antheia's at -1 stage, Sandile's at +0
[OOC] Esme: Yosh
Jack Layfield: "I know it hurts, but keep it up Sandy!"
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Man if I was like level 6 I'd have thundershock and would start cleaning up
[OOC] Jack Layfield: If I was like 6 I would have Mud Slap and Meeps would be ko'd before she could act :P
[OOC] Esme: Doubtful; Mud Slap is Special
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yup. And Excited would still be a -5 damage penalty.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Wait no, I don't get a ground attack until much later
[OOC] Jack Layfield: :C
[OOC] Max Thorn: I'd have Fairy Wind and not need to use Camouflage to hope for STAB-field.
[OOC] WC GM: Once trainer actions are done, Sandy!
[OOC] Esme: Look, you know what I get at 13? Friggin Poison Sting. GARBAGE.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Anna reserves her action.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Poison's really good in PTU
[OOC] Max Thorn: 9 + 12, so SPD 21 now, I think?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Overall damage is lower and poison hits for 10% instead of 1/16
[OOC] Esme: Oh no, Poison the status is great
[OOC] Esme: Poison Sting is friggin DB2
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Aah.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I don't get dig until 31 ;-; )
[OOC] Max Thorn: Poison Sting was always garbage, though.
[OOC] Esme: the only ground move Nidoking learns naturally is EARTH POWER AT 43
[OOC] Anna Tomize: IIRC I think in PTU the poison sting poison odds are much higher
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Agility training for sandy again.
[OOC] Esme: There was a reason I wanted inheritance lists man
[OOC] WC GM: If you've been building up Speed, then yeah. Action?
[OOC] Max Thorn: anyway Jack_Layfield it is your turn
Jack Layfield: "Sandile, keep it up, we've almost got them!"
[OOC] Anna Tomize: What's Gervais at?
[OOC] WC GM: 6/41
[OOC] Esme: 6/33
[OOC] Esme: Injuries mang
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, right.
[OOC] WC GM: Still, 6 HP.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: OK. Well, at least we'll get another sucker punch in. With poison, should give Meeps the chance to finish off Sandile and then duel Flabebe.
[OOC] Esme: You gotta habeeb
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Bite on Meeps this time
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Heh.
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 4 (4) (acc 2)
[OOC] Max Thorn: oof.
[OOC] WC GM: That's still a hit.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: And a good thing too, I think this would have missed Nidoran
[OOC] Anna Tomize: It misses Meeps too.
[OOC] Esme: Nah, I've got Accuracy boosts, not Evasion boosts
[OOC] WC GM: Isn't Meeps evasion 1?
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Meeps only has 1 evasion
[OOC] Esme: +2 from Training yall
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Inspired training adds evasion I thought.
[OOC] WC GM: Ah. Miss it is.
[OOC] WC GM: Antheia!
Meeps just watches the lightning fast Sandile rushing it. Heh, it's too fast…Meeps steps aside, cleanly avoiding the bite.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: crap, 3 poison damage right?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yep.
Esme: "What a nimble puffball!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I was hopeing to flich meeps
Anna Tomize: "D-d-don't make light of Meeps…"
Max Thorn: "Antheia, go for Gervais this time!"
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20 2d8+13: 5 (5), 23 (23)
[OOC] Esme: Wuzzat, Tackle?
[OOC] Max Thorn: hai.
[OOC] WC GM: Resisting twice, I assume?
Gervais leaps, colliding midstrike! [SUCKER PUNCH]
[OOC] WC GM: And using…that, yes.
[OOC] Esme: Remember, Interrupts use your move action from the NEXT turn.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: (Hold on, only resist twice if it'll save you.
[OOC] Esme: And it'd only resist once, because Friend Guard is a Scene Ability, and I'm also not gonna use up Anna's other Blessing.
WC GM rolled up (23-6)/4: 4.25
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, K.
Esme rolled up 1d20+2: 17 (17)
Esme rolled up 2d8+22: 33 (33)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: More damage then?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: And poison point.
[OOC] WC GM: Enough to faint Gervais with or without using the resist, yes.
[OOC] Esme: Also Scene? Can't use it again, yo.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Poison point is scene
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Ah, OK.
[OOC] Max Thorn: 33-6 → 27, ouch.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Most of the really powerful abilities are scene
[OOC] Esme: Resisted once, bub
[OOC] Max Thorn: that's two injuries?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Gotcha.
[OOC] Esme: Fairy > Dark
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Not fairy any more.
[OOC] Esme: OH YEAH
[OOC] Esme: HAHAHAHA
[OOC] Anna Tomize: It used camouflage.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I think camouflage was a terrible idea here.
[OOC] Esme: But yeah Gervy goin down
Power versus power. Gervais comes out from that fainted.
[OOC] WC GM: Meeps!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah. It was.
Anna Tomize: "M-Meeps! No! Don't give up!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Now for meeps to ignore sandy until poison faints it >_<
[OOC] Max Thorn: It was, but all my moves are physical so I was going to eat it sooner or later anyway.
Esme frowns. "A good effort, though."
[OOC] Max Thorn: Sooner rather than later.
Jack Layfield: "Sandile, just one more, you can do it!))
Meeps, sensing its ally go down, positions itself to continue the attack just as Nidoran collapses!
Max Thorn: "I've got an Antidote if you need it, Jack."
It charges Flabebe!
Max Thorn: "And potions."
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Do I get any accuracy bonuses? I forget.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Did that drop flabebe?
Anna Tomize rolled up 1d20: 8 (8)
[OOC] WC GM: Doesn't matter - that hits.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Ah, shouldn't need them.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Well this will
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Also I totally forget to apply my ace trainer bonuses >_<
Anna Tomize rolled up 1d8+11: 14 (14)
Sheep tramples flower! Antheia faints.
Samantha Spade: "Happily, the next place we're going is the pokemon center."
[OOC] WC GM: Round 5! Trainer actions.
Meeps confidently bowls into the Flabebe knocking it away and watching as it rolls several meters. ((Tackle is a push attack.))
Speedster sandile versus flufftank mareep. The atmosphere is tense.
Max Thorn pulls his pokéball out and recalls Antheia into it.
Confidently, it pounds the ground with its two front hooves and turns to face the Sandile.
Jack Layfield: "Okay Sandile, it's down to the wire!"
Sandile hops back and forth, looking for an angle of attack
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Agility training again
Meeps carefully positions itself to face Sandile, constraining its movement to maximize its stamina.
[OOC] WC GM: Sandy!
Jack Layfield: "Sandile, use bite!"
Anna Tomize: "Meeps! Noo!"
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 16 (16) (acc 2 )
[OOC] Jack Layfield: flinches
[OOC] Esme: ?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Static. Sandile is poisoned.
[OOC] Esme: Bite Flinches on 15+
[OOC] Esme: oh wait, you don't have a +2
[OOC] Esme: CARRY ON
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Meeps activates Excited.
[OOC] WC GM: Sandile is now paralyzed and poisoned.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: 5 damage reduction.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: They can stack in PTU?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yep.
[OOC] WC GM: As well as Reflect's reduction?
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+21: 29 (29)
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I want to see the damage roll before deciding on reflect.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Welp, still flinches
[OOC] WC GM: 29-14 = 15. Reducing?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: …Let's reduce an even number.
Meeps flinches.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Meeps is at 25/40
[OOC] WC GM: Round 6. Trainer actions?
[OOC] Max Thorn: how's Sandy's HP?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Er, 25/48
[OOC] WC GM: 15 HP left for Sandy
[OOC] Jack Layfield: now at 18/39 because of poison
[OOC] WC GM: Was before end of round 5.
Anna Tomize: "Meeps! No, don't give up!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Poison deals damage after I take actions
[OOC] WC GM: Anyway - trainer actions then Sandy!
Mareep: MarEEeeeEP!
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Not end of round
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Inspired training, Mareep takes excited.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: You've got one more tick than I would have taken
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Agility training, etc
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 17 (17) (5 or under paralyzes)
Jack Layfield: "Keep up the pressure, We don't have much more left! Bite one more time!"
Anna Tomize: "Noo! Don't give up!"
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 15 (15) (acc 2)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: 15 is a flinch? Or is it only 16 and up?
Another flinch…
[OOC] Max Thorn: 15+
[OOC] WC GM: It says "15+".
[OOC] WC GM: So yeah, 15 counts.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I am not a smart man
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Huh. Does Evasion count as a penalty to the roll for flinches?
[OOC] Max Thorn: no, it's a flat 15+
[OOC] Jack Layfield: No, those just trigger off the accuracy roll
[OOC] Esme: Nah, Effect ranges trigger strictly on the dice roll
[OOC] WC GM: What they said.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Then I am being quite unlucky.
[OOC] WC GM: Roll damage.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Otherwise you would never trigger them at high levels
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Let's reflect this one.
[OOC] Esme: Not from any bonuses or what have you, unless they say they affect Effect Ranges, and even then it just increases the range on the first dice roll
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+21: 30 (30)
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Only need one turn…
[OOC] WC GM: Turn 7! Trainer actions.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: How much damage got through??
[OOC] WC GM: Sandy still has less HP than Meeps, thanks to poison.
[OOC] WC GM: 8. 30-14 = 16, 16/2 = 8.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Sandy's at 15 now.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Isn't it only resisted if she uses reflect?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I did.
[OOC] WC GM: Reflect is now used up.
[OOC] Esme: Pchoooo
[OOC] WC GM: Same trainer actions, I assume?
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Let's speed this math along real quick. Mareep re-establishes excited using reflect.
[OOC] WC GM: If so, Sandy again!
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Anna reserves.
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 20 (20) (5 or less paralyzed)
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 14 (14) (acc 2 bite)
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Finally.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Let's see, if it hits for sub 30 I'm good.
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+21: 32 (32)
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Sorry there.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Ah, well. GG.
That is barely enough, but it is enough.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: I ate the 12.5% double flinch. It happens.
Tim: "Mareep…err, Meeps is unable to battle. Jack, Max, and Isabella win!"
Max Thorn: "…And now we go to the pokémon center."
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Yeah lucking out on fliches was my only way to win there, but I had to go for it.
Samantha Spade: "Yes. Yes, please."
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Yeah. RNG losses are the way of Pokemon.
Samantha Spade is holding Malta's pokeball in her hand.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Also you never rolled significantly under average damage.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Also you got the flinch on thunderfang which saved damage IIRC.
Jack skates over to Sandy and picks her up. "You were spectacular, Let's get you to the pokemon center now."
Max Thorn: "Which is…that way…I think…" Max heads off.
Tim: "Let's go!" Fortunately, the pokemon center is but two blocks away - as if the meeting place was chosen knowing that it would be needed soon.
Esme goes and picks ups Gervais, scratching him under the ear before returning him to his ball. "Good effort!" She looks over to Izzy. "Ah! Is your…ralts ok? Gervy went in a little hard."
Anna Tomize: "Meeps! Nooo!"
Anna rushes out and catches Mareep as it falls to one knee. It's still glaring at that Sandile. Next time…
Isabella: "…I think he'll be fine with rest."
Samantha Spade hurries to follow Tim.
Jack skates right after the others, blazing past them.
Max Thorn: "…Note to self: get a board."
The pokemon center is a little crowded - it looks like the younger groups finished their battles faster - so there is a short line. Nurse Joy tries to placate the crowd. "Everyone have your pokedexes and pokeballs ready, and we'll treat all your pokemon, just hold on."
Esme claps. "Good! Battles can be a bit rough, but they can be fun. Though getting involved against wild pokemon was much easier than this, for me."
A chansey tends to the actual pokeball transport as Nurse Joy handles the paperwork.
Anna Tomize wordlessly accepts her pokedex and pokeballs while looking down. It seems she feels bad about Meeps.
Samantha Spade pat's Anna's shoulder.
Jack returns Sandile to it's pokeball so it can be healed. "I hope I didn't push Sandy too hard."
A few Team Jaeger handlers escort the crowds. Sure enough, Tim is the youngest of them. Nurse Joy takes a moment to scowl at each one in turn as their group passes by her.
Samantha Spade: "Meeps'll be fine once they have a chance to work their magic."
Anna Tomize looks up at Sam.
Max Thorn 's content to let the others go first, if there's a line. "Nah. He's tough, you'll be fine."
Anna Tomize: "Y-y-ysure…?"
One or two handlers look back at Nurse Joy defiantly, but nothing comes of it.
Samantha Spade: "Meeps is way to terrifying to let one fight break his spirit."
Anna Tomize: "O-OK…"
Samantha Spade: "…But I do know how you feel. Malta looked…"
Samantha Spade bites her lip again.
One of the other handlers walks up to the party. "So you're the 'lucky' ones who got Tim, huh? He show you his egg yet?"
Esme takes a look around the Pokemon Center. She had never properly visited one before.
Samantha Spade blinks at the handler
Samantha Spade: "Oh, he's got a Pokemon egg, then? That's neat."
Isabella: "Oh…an egg?"
Tim frowns at the older handler. "Whatcha gotta tell THEM for, huh?"
Jack Layfield: "No, he did not. I almost feel like we're supposed to take care of him. Is this some kind of totally bogus joke?"
TJHandler: "Well you kept showing it to us. And you've gotta admit, it's special. C'mon, show it!"
Tim sighs, digs around in his small backpack, and produces a pokemon egg - off-white and purple.
Anna Tomize leans over and looks at the Egg.
Anna Tomize: "Woooh…"
Max Thorn has a gander. Anything he can tell about it from his education?
Anna Tomize: "It's very…plurple."
Jack Layfield: "Neat. And a pokemon will hatch from it?"
Anna Tomize blinks.
Isabella: "Oh, that's wonderful. Baby pokemon are just so~ cute…"
Anna Tomize: "What'cha g'gun'gunna do with it?"
Tim: "Hatch it, what else?"
Anna Tomize: "Do you know wot kind it is?"
Tim: "Th' boss says I have to be careful with it."
Esme: "Purple?"
Tim shakes his head.
The older handler chuckles.
TJHandler: "You're still calling him 'boss'?"
Max Thorn rolled up 4d6: 11 (11) (pokémon ed)
Tim: "Well he is!"
Anna Tomize: "Who'sa bawss?"
Max Thorn: "…Huh. That's pretty unusual all right. Expert opinion."
The handler clasps his hands behind his head and regards the party. "Well, now. Keep venturing and I'm sure you'll meet him."
TJHandler: "He's our boss, but Tim's…"
Tim: "…boss!"
Max Thorn: "…In fact…most eggs have imperfections in their shape and coloration. This one? Perfect ovoid, could've come from a lab."
TJHandler: "Shyeah, whatever."
Anna Tomize blinks.
Max Thorn: "So. You keep a close eye on that egg, young man, and let me know what comes out…if you can, that is."
Tim puts the egg away. "The boss said it'll hatch by the time we've made the rounds."
Jack Layfield: "Don't let them get to you Tim, He's just another unrighteous bummer trying to bring you down."
Jack nods sagely.
Samantha Spade pauses at that, and gives Jack a slightly confused look.
Samantha Spade shrugs and goes back to waiting for Malta to be healthy again.
Anna Tomize: "S-so wh-where d'Jaggies come from anyways?"
Anna Tomize asks this as if it's the most natural thing in the world.
Jack Layfield: "What."
Anna Tomize: "D-dey come in, beat da league up…"
Esme eyes Anna worriedly.
Anna Tomize cocks her head just so. She seems to have no idea what's wrong.
TJHandler: "You want to know where we came from? Ha, ha, oh I haven't heard that in a while."
Anna Tomize: "Issometing 'wrong?"
Anna Tomize looks at the Handler through her glasses.
The handler grins a menacing grin. "If you want to visit our home you just go right on ahead. Don't blame me if you don't live to return."
Max Thorn checks on the line…
Isabella: "…Perhaps we should focus on staying with the line."
Anna Tomize: "H-hey, why're y'being all scary…"
Jack Layfield: "It's because every Team Jaeger member is so smug about it. That's why no one asks. Chillax brah."
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Should Anna roll charm here?
Around now, the chansey takes the group's pokeballs.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: She's genuinely curious.
[OOC] WC GM: If you want.
[OOC] WC GM: A good roll can get more info.
[OOC] WC GM: A bad roll…you'd get the info several sessions from now anyway.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Roll for adept is uh…4d6 right?
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah.
Anna Tomize rolled up 4d6: 19 (19)
[OOC] WC GM: …that'll do. Narrate her approach.
Anna Tomize looks like she's about to cry after the handler menaced her.
TJHandler: "Wha…what's with the tears? Sheesh, okay."
Anna Tomize: "W-why y'bein mean…Ah-a-ah'm jus tryna make nice and ah jus wanna know what's up an-an-an-an…"
Anna Tomize sniffs.
TJHandler: "We're from Dojji! Dojji!"
Anna Tomize: "D-dun be mean…"
Anna Tomize: "Oooh…OK!"
NurseJoy: "That old lie again?"
TJHandler: "What?"
Anna Tomize blinks.
Anna Tomize: "L-lie…?"
Anna Tomize shrinks.
Nurse Joy gets in the handler's face. "Dojji. Was. Eradicated. Everyone knows that."
Anna Tomize: "Y-you'd lie to me…?"
TJHandler: "Yeah, well. Maybe what everyone knows ain't always true, y'know?"
Anna Tomize looks at the handler.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Rolling Perception to spot the lie, if there was one.
Anna Tomize: "S-so wot happened out there? How y'survive? D'you like Amodan life much?"
Samantha Spade rolled up 3d6: 10 (10)
Anna Tomize: "What's the weather like?"
Anna Tomize leans in to the handler.
Anna Tomize: "How d'you get yer SandJaggies so cute?"
TJHandler: "In Dojji? Hot and dry." He points a thumb at Nurse Joy. "Ask her why."
Nurse Joy hmphs and goes back to tending the other trainers.
Anna Tomize frowns.
Anna Tomize: "Ah didn' mean to start ah foight…"
Anna Tomize hugs Meeps to calm down. ((Assuming it has been taken care of.))
Jack Layfield: "This is all so not radical."
TJHandler: "It's alright." He smiles that menacing smile again. "*YOU* didn't."
Anna Tomize looks sad at that smile.
Isabella just seems glad to have her ralts back.
Anna Tomize: "P-pliss dun lookit me like zat…"
Samantha Spade: "Now look! You're making poor Anna scared!"
Jack Layfield: "Uncool to the max, brah."
Tim: "Y-yeah! Go back to your own trainers! These are my responsibility!"
TJHandler: "Alright, alright." He wanders off.
[OOC] Anna Tomize: Aww~ We got Tim on our side.
Samantha Spade: "Thanks, Tim! That was really helpful!"
[OOC] Esme: Did we actually get our pokemon back, or are people just saying we did?
Max Thorn pulls out a book and reads while he waits.
[OOC] WC GM: Eh - let's say this center was operating extremely fast, having prepared for today - so yeah, pokemon came back within 15 minutes.
[OOC] Samantha Spade: Works for me!
[OOC] Esme: Boo I was gonna go Dowse; But works :p
The other groups of trainers, and their handlers, begin to file out.
Samantha Spade pops Malta out of her pokeball as soon as said Pokeball is back in her hands.
Samantha Spade: "Malta! You're back! How are your wings?"
Max Thorn blinks as he gets his pokéball back. He lets Antheia out and tucks her flower behind his ear again.
[OOC] WC GM: You've had time to dowse.
Malta limps around on Sam's shoulder and looks otherwise dejected and pathetic.
Max Thorn: "Welp. Where do we want to go first?"
Tim: "The gym is next, but, uh…they may be busy for a while."
Jack lets Sandy out of it's ball again. The sandile immediately scurries up Jack and plops itself onto his head.
Samantha Spade: "…I'm going to take that as 'not bad enough to interfere with my acting skills."
Malta: "Cheep!"
Max Thorn eyes the bird. "You're a ham, dood."
Esme returns, having ran out to do…something, while they waited. She happily accepts her pokeball, releasing Gervaise and giving him a hug.
Samantha Spade: "She is."
Anna Tomize hugs Meeps upon its return. She seems attached.
Tim: "Oh! I was supposed to wait until after the gym, but…Nurse Joy, can you get package number 6?"
Samantha Spade: "See? I told you Meeps would be fine."
[OOC] Esme: Gonna go and roll my Dowse, the cityis Metro Beach, so gonna assume there's a beachy area.
Jack Layfield: "Sorry we hit your fletchling so hard."
Esme rolled up 4#1d6: 3 1 3 1 (8) ((Gimme Shards))
Samantha Spade: "And how's…Gabe? Gabriel?"
[OOC] Esme: NOTHIN
Nurse Joy glares at the other handler out the door for a noment, before recovering. "Hmm? Oh! Sure, if it'll mean we don't have another rush again. Just a moment." She goes into the back.
Samantha Spade tickles Malta's chin.
Samantha Spade: "Malta'll be fine. It wasn't a serious-serious fight."
Samantha Spade frowns
The beach is in fact barely a block from the center. Down the beach, Esme can see several pokemon fights - the other trainers from just now.
Isabella: "Oh…he's fine. We haven't really tried battling before…"
Nurse Joy returns, dragging a box. "Uff. It's heavy. I suggest you take it to the beach before unpacking it."
Tim: "You heard her. Let's haul it over there." He begins trying to drag it, but gets nowhere.
Jack Layfield: "Battling can take some practice. Sandy and I do lots of cardio to prepare."
Samantha Spade: "Ah. Yeah, I'd wondered. Sorry to go after you so hard and fast, but I wanted to make it a three on two if I could."
Max Thorn lends a hand.
Jack Layfield: "Let me help you with that kid."
Samantha Spade: "…Which didn't really work too well, since it immediately became a two on two."
Isabella: "Well, maybe it's just not for us…"
Gabriel hops away and "helps" with the box too.
Tim: "No, rrrgh, this, rrf, is for my group, grr…"
Samantha Spade: "Seems pretty unlikely. Gabriel's a pokemon. They're not all good at fighting - but they all love it."
Jack works with Max to lift the box
Isabella: "Oh, not all…"
Esme: "Fighting helps build strength, and character!" She flexes.
Between the party, the box is ported to the beach. The roar of the ocean nearly drowns out the pokemon battles down the beach. The scent of salt sea spray fills the air.
Once the party has reached the beach, Tim undoes a catch on top of the box. Tightly packed tents and bedrolls sproing forth, in a pile that promptly buries Tim.
Jack Layfield: "Ah, the beach. So radical."
Anna Tomize blinks.
Anna Tomize: "Ish…broight…"
Esme helps unearth the poor Jaeger boy.
Max Thorn hands out bedrolls and takes one of the tents for himself.
[OOC] WC GM: 3 tents, 6 bedrolls.
Jack Layfield: "You okay Tim?"
[OOC] WC GM: The tents are big enough for 2, possibly 3, people each plus pokemon.
Tim seems stunned, but physically okay.
Esme: "The beach here is quite lovely. Though I still prefer the muddy lakes, to the salty bay."
Gabriel runs excited circles around the Tim pile.
Isabella: "Are you…alright?"
Tim: "Just five more minutes, boss."
Sands facepalms and drags Tim out of the pile.
Jack Layfield: "Don't push yourself too hard there kid."
Samantha Spade: "I'm sure he'll be okay. He's already finished his Pokemon Journey, after all…"
Tim shakes his head. "Err? What? No, this is my journey."
Samantha Spade: "Oh?"
Max Thorn: "Got a bedroll for yourself, then?"
Samantha Spade: "…Huh. I thought you had to get all of your badges to join Team Jaeger."
Tim: "Uh-huh! Boss says I need to go on my journey now."
Tim: "Normally yeah, but boss just made me part of it."
Anna Tomize: "Hah? Ahnren't ya a Jaggy?"
Tim: "The other members look at me funny when I ask why."
Esme leans in, peering at Tim.
Esme: "He makes several exceptions for you, it seems."
Anna Tomize: "Ya've even got a creepy wav-egg."
Samantha Spade quirks her mouth in a grin.
Anna Tomize: "Y'need an electric type t'protect ya outside, y'know.
Anna Tomize opens her eyes REAL BIG and takes off her glasses.
Tim: "Huh?"
Anna Tomize: "S-sommtimes ah can feel 'dem."
Jack Layfield: "Kid, be straight with me here. were you assigned to us because we were old enough that we didn't need much supervision from you?"
Anna Tomize: "Dere are like…"
Tim backs away from Anna, unable to look away.
Anna Tomize: "Dere are deze wavs…and yer egg…"
Isabella shields Gabe's eyes from the horror that is hypno-Anna
Anna Tomize links back.
Anna Tomize: "Muh?"
Jack tilts his head at Anna. So does Sandy.
Tim is by now cowering.
Anna Tomize: "H-he need a warnan!"
Max Thorn: "…You're weird."
Anna Tomize: "Hiss in dangar!"
Samantha Spade looks from Anna to Tim.
Anna Tomize: "A-ah'm nyot werd! Y'all'are werd!"
Samantha Spade: "Could you have warned him without simply terrifying him?"
Isabella: "I-It's ok, Tim, she's…mostly harmless…"
Tim: "O-okay I'm in danger I'm in danger can you put your glasses back on?"
Anna Tomize: "A-ah didn't mean to…"
Anna Tomize: "Ya…"
Anna Tomize puts her glasses on and frowns.
Isabella: "…I think…"
Anna Tomize: "Ah'm sorry abot m'eyes…"
Tim exhales and looks away.
Anna Tomize looks guilty.
Isabella: "There there, it's not your fault, just…unexpected…"
Esme: "So!"
Esme: "Are we camping?"
Jack Layfield: "What in the blue blazes crap was that shiz?"
Tim: "S-sooo…" He stands up and kicks the sand. "Next is the gym." He points down the beach. "But we've time to play around a bit before they'll be ready for us. You want to do anything?"
[OOC] Isabella: call time?
[OOC] WC GM: Sure. This works as a break.
[OOC] WC GM: Last lines?
Isabella also looks guilty about making Anna sad
Max Thorn: "I'm good, got some reading to catch up on."
Anna Tomize: "Ah…"
Samantha Spade: "Well. Let's think of something…"
Esme: "I already combed the beach for shards… Perhaps I will sit and tinker a bit."
Anna Tomize: "M-mebbe…go get food?"
Jack Layfield: "There's some sweet rails to grind here."
