Session 11

It could be a picture tableau. The tank with a face, grinning in mischief, smoke rising from its just-fire cannon. The precariously small iceberg the party is upon, just large enough for the tent - if the party had not gotten an early start and mostly packed up by now. The trail of smoke tracing the projectile's path from cannon to iceberg…
…and suddenly arcing up the moment it bounced off of Meeps, defiantly standing in the tank shell's path. The shell detonated harmlessly in the air behind the party.
Sam Spade: "Oh n-"
Sam Spade: "Thank Meeps…"
Meeps stands bravely, sparking in front of the tank and stamping it's tiny hooves. What a sheep.
Max Thorn: "Nootaikok, go! Plug 'er up with some Powder Snow!"
Tim is wide-eyed and paralyzed. Sands finishes stuffing the tent in Tim's backpack and zips it up.
Sam Spade: "We should get out of its line of sight!"
Anna Tommize just looks slack jawed at her pokemon. Did you know it could do that? She didn't.
[OOC] Sam Spade: How far are we from land?
[OOC] WC GM: Close enough to jump.
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20 2d6+19: 12 (12), 22 (22) (AC2)
Sam Spade grabs Tim and jumps to shore, setting him down next to her behind a building.
Sam Spade: "Malta! Cover us!"
The tank is too far away to hit. It giggles…then a police siren sounds from down the street.
Malta is preparing for Quick Guard as required.
The tank glances in the siren's direction then hauls treads back into the city.
Max Thorn jumps off the 'berg in the meantime, having tossed Nootaikok's ball such that the vulpix landed on the shore.
Sam Spade: "…It's gone?"
Anna Tommize takes the chance to lead off for land and start finding a place to hide.
Max Thorn: "I suppose that's even better an outcome than I was hoping for."
Sam Spade catches Sands and hands him down next to Tim.
A police car screeches as it turns onto the beach-facing street at high speed. Its driver toggles on the megaphones. "YOU! ON THE BEACH! GET INDOORS NOW!"
Jack, having dropped to take cover when the cannon went off now lifts himself off the ice of the iceberg, then leaps to the shore.
Esme grabs her gear, hopping off to solid land. "Good morning so far."
Sam Spade: "Okay! Where?"
Jack Layfield: "BITE ME COPPER, I'M A LAYFIELD, THIS IS MY PROBLEM!"
PoliceOfficer: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WE HAVE A LOCKD…Jack?!?"
Jack Layfield: "Oh hey Steve."
The police car pulls up. Officer Jenny rolls down the window.
Anna Tommize: "W-why'd yer thing shoot at me!?"
OfficerJenny: "Steve's in the hospital. Jack…you're back? Now?!?"
Sam Spade: "It's not her thing, silly."
Jack Layfield: "You missed my shenanigans."
Sam Spade: "It's running around on its own…"
Anna Tommize: "O-oh…"
Anna Tommize: "I just kind of assumed, since uh…"
Anna Tommize: "Police and…"
Anna Tommize: "Ah'm sorry Ma'am."
Officer Jenny bites her lip. "It's okay. Umm. Get in, I'll take you to Jack's parents."
Jack Layfield: "What did they do?"
Sam Spade: "…Do police let tanks run around in Wirehold?"
Anna Tommize wordlessly nods and climbs in.
Sam Spade: "I'm kinda glad we didn't move when you guys did…"
Anna Tommize: "N-nooo…."
Max Thorn recalls Nootaikok and does as requested.
Officer Jenny frowns. "I think you need to hear this from them."
Sam Spade follows.
Jack Layfield: "I can spot one of my parent's gizmos a mile away." Jack ducks into the back of the police car. "
Max Thorn: "I'm going to guess a rotom decided it'd make a perfect home."
The car is a bit cramped with everyone inside. Jenny puts it in gear, not even waiting for seatbelts. "It's a rotom, but that thing was made for rotoms."
Tim: "R…rai…ra…"
Sam Spade: "Why would someone do that?"
Esme: "Rotom?"
Jenny glances in her rear view mirror. "You all okay? That kid looks like he took a hit."
Anna Tommize: "Did Mo…a-ah, I mean, Mrs. Tommize make it?"
Jack Layfield: "Because it's too small for a human pilot, but you need something smarter than a robot?"
Max Thorn: "Rotoms are a poltergeist species, known to inhabit electronics such as vacuums, toasters, and so on."
Jack Layfield: "Plus it's totally awesome."
Max Thorn pauses with a faint blush. "…I sounded like a pokédex there, didn't I."
Esme: "That does sound pretty neat."
Sam Spade: "And apparently out of control, if they had to shut down the city."
Officer Jenny toggles the radio. "Open the gym's east door! I'm coming in hot-IIT!" The tank comes into view off the right side. Officer Jenny drops the radio and swerves, barely avoiding another shell.
Esme snorts. "Hey, saved me the trouble of taking it ou-Whoo that was close!"
Jack Layfield: "WOOOOOOOOOO!" Jack has his arms up, enjoying the crazy ride.
Max Thorn: "I could see about packing the barrel full of ice…"
Up ahead looms one of the larger factory-blocks. A warehouse-style metal door rolls up.
Officer Jenny's swerve continues right through the doorway, scraping the lights atop the car. Once inside she yells, "CLOSE THE DOOR! CLOSE THE DOOR!"
The car skids across an empty factory floor, coming to a halt against the door on the far side, slow enough that a bumper dent is probably the only damage.
Jack Layfield: "Jenny, would it kill you to park in the lines?" Jack snickers.
…it is not immediately apparent if this is a forge or a gym. Certainly there are the markings for an arena (marred by tire tracks) in the space you just skidded across, but there are metal works and a blacksmith's fever dream all around.
OfficerJenny: "This time? Yes, yes it would have."
Max Thorn: "…Is it safe now?"
Jack Layfield: "Nah this is my parent's gym."
Tim opens the car door and BOLTS into the factory's works, followed by Sands.
Esme: "So… not safe in your parent's gym?"
The door you entered through drops shut - just in time to block and dent from one, two, three impacts.
Anna Tommize: "Myeep!"
Officer Jenny exhales and gets out. "I'm going to check on that kid. Jack, you need to talk to your parents, NOW." She runs off where Tim went.
Sam Spade: "Welp. Let's find out just what's up."
Jack steps out of the car, and stretches his arms up casually. Then, he yawns.
Jack Layfield: "Good to be back home."
Esme clambers out of the vehicle, stretching. "Tight fit."
Anna Tommize is shaking from her recent encounters with the tank.
A man and a woman, seemingly kindly aged mechanics in grease-stained overalls, emerge from what looks like a control room. "Welcome home," the man declares. "You picked one heck of a time to return."
Sam Spade smooths Malta's feathers, and looks at the man and woman.
Max Thorn: "Yeah, uh. About that. Team Jaeger's a couple days out. They heard about a drone tank, and aren't pleased."
Esme: "They've got rockets!"
Max Thorn: "They decided they wanted to be on foot, though, so we took an iceberg from Ice Cove courtesy of Ivan."
Jack Layfield: "Things sounded wicked cool, and I figured I should show up."
Jack Layfield: "You know me, that's how you got me to go to Sky City."
Sam Spade eyes the older Layfields suspiciously.
The woman nods. "Ivan told us. We've been waiting for you to get here."
Jack Layfield: "So mom, what mechanical mayhem have we unleashed this time?"
Max Thorn jerks a thumb at the door. "I take it that that's the drone they're concerned about?"
Mr. Layfield facepalms. "But where are our manners? First things first. Welcome to the Foundry Town Gym. I am Ham Layfield and this is my wife, An; together, we are the gym leaders."
Max Thorn bows. "I am Maximilien Thorn, professor-in-training."
Sam Spade: "I'm Sam Malakowski. This is Anna, and that's Esme."
Esme: "Esme Duval, oui."
Jack Layfield: "Oh hey pops, I got a new pokemon while I was out, come on, say hi sneeze." Jack lets sneasel out of his pokeball.
An peers at Sam. "So you're the other one from Sky City, eh?"
Anna Tommize: "H-hi…"
Ham thrusts a hand toward Anna. "Hello there. Nice to see you in person this time."
Anna Tommize gulps and takes the hand.
Sam Spade: "Um."
Sam Spade: "I guess?"
Anna Tommize: "L-likewise…"
Sam Spade: "…Things happened."
Ham gives Anna a firm handshake.
Anna Tommize: "Ah'm Anna Tommize. N-nice t'meetcha."
Jack Layfield: "You're selling yourself short there Sam, it was pretty cool."
Anna Tommize says her last name *very* quietly.
AnLayfield: "We can discuss that later. Jack, you got the disc?"
HamLayfield: "I know. You might not remember me, though."
Jack digs the disc out of his backpack and tosses it to his mother.
Jack Layfield: "Miiight be a little scratched."
An snatches it from mid-air. "We'll work with it. So! About this current crisis."
Esme peers around at this foundry-gym.
Sam Spade: "Yes!"
Sam Spade: "Robot tank running around shooting at people."
Sam Spade: "Well…Rotom tank."
AnLayfield: "A certain customer, who we can discuss later, requested that we rebuild one of the old RT tanks."
Anna Tommize gulps.
Anna Tommize: "M-maybe we could convince it to stop…?"
Max Thorn: "…Oh, *that*."
Max Thorn: "That's what the Jaegers're after."
The foundry gym seems almost impractical - until Esme realizes it is more steel-type pokemon habitat than actual factory.
Several small steel-type pokemon peer from nests throughout the facility.
AnLayfield: "As you may or may not know, the RTs were designed to finish the Mewtwo War with Dojji. And they did."
Anna Tommize nods.
AnLayfield: "After that…well, we never did recover all of them. Couldn't, not with…ah, that's beside the point. Point is, there weren't no functioning ones in Amoda."
Esme takes notes.
Jack Layfield: "When you don't have a mewtwo, cheat like nobody's watching."
Sam Spade doesn't twitch, but only through long practice.
Anna Tommize: "W-well, mostly not functioning. My mom kept…"
AnLayfield: "Ex-actly!"
Jack Layfield: "That's what you always told me mom."
An shoots Anna a glance.
Anna Tommize shuts her mouth.
AnLayfield: "Ahem. Customer later. There WAS indeed one non-functional one."
Jack Layfield: "And now it's functional and on a rampage."
AnLayfield: "Recently we got a request to restore it. So we did. We THOUGHT there weren't any rotoms about, but one hijacked it."
AnLayfield: "And, well, this is the kind of thing it was made for. Or so the rotom thinks."
Sam Spade: "…Wait."
Sam Spade: "There's something else it was intended for?"
An and Ham exchange a look.
Anna Tommize: "R-Rotoms aren't really vicious, it may not fully understand what it's doing…"
Max Thorn: "It's a drone. Drones are remote-operated."
Max Thorn: "Except when a rotom decides to move in, that is."
Sam Spade: "…Oh."
HamLayfield: "The exact nature of its orders aren't up to us, but surely it was intended to do more than just rampage."
Jack Layfield: "All the secrets, I swear mom, why haven't you gotten Bisharp to cut it in half or something?"
AnLayfield: "Drones are remote-operated. This ain't no drone, kid."
AnLayfield: "The only way an RT tank moves is with an operator, and that means a rotom."
Max Thorn: "Was under the impression they wanted it intact, Jack."
AnLayfield: "Bisharp can't keep up."
Sam Spade: "Oh, I see."
HamLayfield: "No, no. We'd like it if you could destroy it."
HamLayfield: "Just, well…it's a bit too fast."
Anna Tommize: "Mo…I-I mean, the customer could get pretty mad if we break it, though…"
Max Thorn: "…Ahh."
Esme sifts through her pokedex. "Not too many fast Steel types, no."
Ham smiles. "And who do we know who deals with FAST?"
Anna Tommize looks very nervous at the prospect of breaking the tank.
Max Thorn: "Well, Jack did catch a sneasel before we left Ice Cove."
Sam Spade: "It skedaddled pretty quick when Officer Jenny arrived, I suppose…"
Jack Layfield: "I do have a type dad, I admit it."
Sam Spade: "And Malta's no slouch, either…"
AnLayfield: "We've called the customer and told her our plans. She is okay with you breaking it. So long as it's you."
Sam Spade frowns
Anna Tommize: "Me?"
Sam Spade: "…That's…"
AnLayfield: "All of you."
Jack Layfield: "You're going to have to fix Jenny's car again pops. Just fyi."
Sam Spade: "….Very…"
Jack Layfield: "AWESOME!"
Sam Spade looks at the Layfields and hmms thoughtfully.
HamLayfield: "Heck. While it's in this shell, the rotom is steel and ghost type. That means we can count this as a gym challenge. So, do this and we can give you all our gym badge."
Sam Spade: "Hmm."
Sam Spade: "Well, I'm in."
Jack Layfield: "Do we have any leftover vehicles to chase it with mom?"
Sam Spade: "Also, can a rotank be caught with a pokeball?"
AnLayfield: "Leftover, no. But we have been preparing some go-karts for you!"
Esme: "Steel and Ghost doesn't leave us with too many options. We cou-Go karts!"
HamLayfield: "I don't see why not, and that would stop it. Or just break the tank shell; you don't need to bring the rotom in."
Sam Spade pales. She looks from Anna, to Max, to Esme, to Jack.
Anna Tommize: "I-I'm not sure h-hurting it is…"
AnLayfield: "We *think* it won't use its main cannon on go-karts."
AnLayfield: "So you should only have to deal with its machine gun. And the tank itself, of course."
Anna Tommize gulps.
Anna Tommize: "O-OK…"
Jack Layfield: "We're not hurting it. we're ending its joyride."
HamLayfield: "The police have been corralling it. They'll keep your chase away from anything too flammable or expensive."
Jack Layfield: "In this town? Not likely,"
Max Thorn: "…machine gun."
Anna Tommize gulps.
Max Thorn: "…You want us to go up against something armed with a machine gun."
Esme: "Are the karts at least…encased?"
Ham nods. "From what we've heard, you can handle it."
Anna Tommize: "I-I'm not sure this is…s-smart…"
AnLayfield: "Of course not. If they were encased, the RT would see a reason to use its cannon."
Max Thorn: "You, uh. Wouldn't happen to have any pokémon that know Mist on hand, would you?"
HamLayfield: "They do have roll cages, though. Just in case."
Meeps steps forward and Baas confidently.
Jack Layfield: "It's not a real ride unless it has a roll cage."
AnLayfield: "If you are planning to catch it, remember to weaken it first, just like any pokemon."
Esme fumbles the blue charm around her neck. "Well, I did prepare to be a bit more sturdy… Not really looking forward to getting shot at again though, no."
HamLayfield: "We didn't get a chance to pokedex it, buuut we think the hijacker's not too high level."
Max Thorn: "So where're these go-karts, anyway?"
Anna Tommize nods.
Max Thorn sighs. "I'll eyeball it, then."
HamLayfield: "Oh, right!" Ham gets out a remote and pushes a button. A door rolls aside, revealing five shiny new, if somewhat jury-rigged-looking, go-karts, each one painted a different color.
Sam Spade gulps quietly, then walks over and grabs the blue one.
AnLayfield: "The black one's for Jack, in honor of his first pokemon contest ribbon."
Jack Layfield: "Aw, you guys saw."
Max Thorn takes the yellow one, since it matches his coat.
HamLayfield: "Of course we did, son! Congratulations!"
Esme hops into the violet one. She's got a theme going here already. She makes sure Gervais is tucked safely in her lap.
Jack leaps into the black go cart and straps himself in.
Malta lands on the roof of Sam's go-kart.
Anna Tommize climbs onto the yellow one, not wanting to break the pattern.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Max is in the yellow one!
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Derp.
Max Thorn: "…Um."
Anna Tommize: "S-sorry…"
Anna Tommize backs off and chooses the pink one, breaking the pattern.
Sandy pops out of her pokeball, and climbs onto jack's shoulder, as Sneeze is returned to his pokeball.
Max Thorn calls Antheia into her pokéball after he's done strapping in, and…oh, good, there's a helmet. He dons that, too.
HamLayfield: "Alright. Gentlemen and ladies, start your engines! …I've always wanted to say that."
Anna Tommize starts her engine as asked.
The mostly undamaged west door starts to roll up.
Max Thorn starts 'er up. Naturally, Jack is the first one out the door.
Sam Spade dons her helmet, fires up the engine, and follows Max…badly.
Anna Tommize: "N-now Meeps…Be careful, OK?"
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Using reflect.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Meeps getting excited condition blah blah
Esme cranks up her buggy, fastening her helmet. "First snowboarding, now karts. Something new every day."
[OOC] Max Thorn: Normally I don't do the whole 'playing for others' thing, but it's in character for Jack, so I figured there wouldn't be any harm in doing it this once.
Anna Tommize seems somewhat more comfortable behind a wheel as opposed to a snowboard. Somewhat.
[OOC] WC GM: Initiatives for this battle will go purely off the trainers, since they're driving. That said, unless you have Expert Tech Education or Focus, the trainer's entire action will be Focus/Acrobatics to drive, and then the pokemon can attack with whatever position the trainer obtained.
Meeps sticks its head out the side of the car like a dog.
[OOC] WC GM: If you do have Expert TE or F, then driving is just a Shift Action.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Aaaand none of us are high enough level for those.
[OOC] WC GM: Which is the plan: keep the first vehicular combat simple.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: We can't have expert skills period. : P
[OOC] Sam Spade: Ah. But he expects to do it again.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Good insight.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Not insight, he did say 'the first' =p
[OOC] Esme: Cursed Adept Technology, you have failed me for the last time
[OOC] WC GM: Which means Jack gets first initiative, then Sam. Max and Esme are tied. Then Anna.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Poor Anna so slow.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Translation: since once this battle is over we get another Milestone and level up, Esme's ranking Tech Ed.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: So, at -6 speed does the tank stop?
[OOC] WC GM: And yes, the plan is for more vehicular combats later on.
[OOC] WC GM: If you can reduce the tank's speed to 0, that'll stop it.
[OOC] Sam Spade: …how is Sam going second? Her focus is Novice, her tech Untrained.
[OOC] WC GM: There are other ways.
[OOC] WC GM: Sam has Speed 11.
Anna Tommize rolled up 3d6: 10 (10) (Focus, getting the roll out of the way)
[OOC] Sam Spade: Fair.
Max Thorn calls Nootaikok out and straps him to his shoulder. "All right, let's roll."
Nootaikok: "Vul!"
[OOC] Anna Tommize: I don't think you CAN reduce speed to 0 in this system, just drop combat stages.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Jack has speed as one of his trained stats for athlete)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: He'd have a combat stage, and thus would be higher than 11
[OOC] WC GM: Ah, right. Then Jack is first init.
Shortly after the party gets on the road, the RT tank zooms by. It swivels its cannon back to look at the party, giggles, then vrooms on ahead - but not fast enough that the go-karts can not catch up.
Sirens sound from adjoining blocks as the police try to deter the tank from turning.
[OOC] WC GM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Azop8fALfY
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Not escape from the city? : P
[OOC] WC GM: Round 1! RT tank's action is zooming past the group. Jack!
[OOC] WC GM: No, because there is no escape this time.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Uh, speed up next to it and have Sandile bite it? Is that a thing I can do?
[OOC] WC GM: Sure! Roll to catch up, then if successful roll attack.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: What do I roll to catch up?
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Focus or Acrobatics
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Okay, rolling Focus
Jack Layfield rolled up 3d6: 9 (9) (Focus)
Jack pulls up, though the tank is trying to dodge.
[OOC] WC GM: Close enough to attack, though there's extra evasion in this case.
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 18 (18) (ac 2 )
[OOC] WC GM: Specifically, extra evasion equal to the amount by which you missed…which is not enough here. Hit!
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Flinches
[OOC] Jack Layfield: If it can flinch
[OOC] Esme: Super Effective!
It may be a tank, but Jack has seen flinches before. This is a flinch. The tank will not be firing until it recovers.
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+23: 25 (25) (damage before super effective)
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Snakeeyes why chessa why do you hate me
Sam Spade pulls in behind Jack and the Rotank. "Malta! Give it something to think about! Growl!"
Sam Spade rolled up 3d6: 13 (13) (Focus to pull in.)
Sure enough, the bite slinks through the armor - not much, but enough to leave a mark.
[OOC] WC GM: Success!
Sam Spade rolled up 1d20: 20 (20) (AC 2)
[OOC] WC GM: CRIT!
[OOC] Sam Spade: …and no benefit to a crit on Growl from Malta, I believe.
[OOC] WC GM: Quite. Max & Esme!
Esme revs up, attempting to pull up to the side.
Max Thorn: "Let's get scary… Nootaikok, Roar!"
Esme rolled up 3d6+1: 16 (16) (Focus, Burn AP for +1)
[OOC] Max Thorn: Roll now or at end of round?
Max Thorn rolled up 3d6: 7 (7) (Survival)
[OOC] Esme: Remember, you can use AP to give yourself a +1 on a check since most of us don't have actions to spend it 8D
[OOC] WC GM: Roll now. But it doesn't have a pokeball to return to.
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 19 (19) (AC 2)
[OOC] Max Thorn: It could still pop out of the tank, though. Or force the tank to move away, which also works.
The tank is indeed pulling away…up ahead, there is a turn-off back toward the beach.
Esme is easily alongside the tank.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Electric type so it's immune to my thunderwave…
[OOC] WC GM: Not in this form!
[OOC] WC GM: The gym leaders said: steel/ghost.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Ah, OK.
Gervais attempts to ram into it, knocking it off the road! [Push]
Esme rolled up 1d20+1: 20 (20) (AC 4)
[OOC] Sam Spade: CRIT
[OOC] Esme: Not quite, since it's both a Maneuver, and that's a 19 :p
[OOC] Sam Spade: Ah, forgot that +1 there.
[OOC] Esme: Opposed Combats/Athletics
Esme rolled up 2d6+3: 6 (6) (Ath)
[OOC] Esme: Thanks Chessa you're great
WC GM rolled up 3d6+1: 15 (15)
The tank is heavy. It skids, but only a little ways further.
The chase breaks onto the beach-side road. The tank finally recovers, but it still mostly leading the party along.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: I rolled 10 to catch up.
[OOC] Esme: NEED DAT SLOW
Anna pulls alongside the tank…
[OOC] WC GM: Meeps does…?
Anna Tommize speeds up due to prodding from Meeps and tries to head off the RoTank, before Meeps starts steadily arcing electricity across the gap. ((T-Wave))
WC GM rolled up 1d20: 20 (20)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: …*sweat*…
The tank is slowed down a bit…but can still act. Or could, if not for that bite.
[OOC] WC GM: Round 2. Tank flinch resolves. Jack!
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Another bite from sandile?
[OOC] WC GM: If you want.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Or do I have to make another Focus roll?
[OOC] WC GM: Yes.
Jack Layfield rolled up 3d6: 7 (7) (Focus driving)
[OOC] WC GM: The tank continues to move and try to evade.
Anna Tommize: "P-Please don't hurt it too much!"
The tank veers away, toward the water, trying to shake this pack of trainers all over it!
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 11 (11) (ac 2 bite come on chess pls)
[OOC] WC GM: Hit!
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Hmm. Anna needs an action, but she's driving…
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+23: 30 (30) (damage before super effective)
This bite gouges more deeply into the tank.
[OOC] WC GM: Sam!
Sam Spade struggles to maintain her position behind the tank!
Sam Spade: "Keep it nervous, Malta! Growl!"
[OOC] WC GM: Remember that you have more available actions to you than the listed moves.
Sam Spade rolled up 3d6: 16 (16) (Focus to drive.)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Yeah, prolly gonna just try and talk to it next round.
Sam is locked on to that tank's rear.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Or this round.
Sam Spade rolled up 1d20+3: 17 (17) (AC 2)
There is no visible effect, but Sam and Malta know the tank heard that.
[OOC] WC GM: Esme & Max!
Esme tries to keep pace as they cruise along!
Esme rolled up 3d6+1: 11 (11) (Focus, AP again)
Esme is in position…
Esme: "Ram it again, Gervy!"
Esme rolled up 1d20: 9 (9) (Push)
Max Thorn: "Give it some snow to worry about, Nootaikok!"
Esme rolled up 3d6+1: 13 (13)
Max Thorn rolled up 3d6 1d20 2d6+19: 9 (9), 5 (5), 27 (27)
[OOC] WC GM: Is Nootaikok snowing the tank, or the road in front of the tank in cooperation w/Esme & Gervaise?
[OOC] Max Thorn: AC2
[OOC] Max Thorn: The tank.
[OOC] Esme: Er, AC 4, and then that was Combat roll
[OOC] Max Thorn: Didn't roll well enough to Freeze it, unfortunately.
WC GM rolled up 3d6+1: 18 (18)
[OOC] Esme: traitorous wench
Almost…almost. Gervaise manages to nudge it a bit. If only it did not have such a grip on the road…
The snow leaves visible frost on the turret.
[OOC] WC GM: Anna!
Anna Tommize rolled up 3d6: 9 (9) (Focus)
Anna trails a little bit but is still close.
Anna Tommize attempts to keep pace with the tank long enough to talk to it. Meeps, meanwhile, starts firing clumps of fur to increase its drag.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Cotton Spore, Range: Burst 1, AC2
Anna Tommize rolled up 1d20: 17 (17)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: I'll assume that hits?
[OOC] WC GM: It does
Anna Tommize starts shouting forward.
The tank is definitely slowing down.
Anna Tommize: "P-please stop! Y-you're scaring us and putting people in danger! I-I-I don't wanna hurt you!"
Anna Tommize looks terrified.
WC GM rolled up 1d20: 3 (3)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Should I roll charm?
…and indeed, the tank stops…for the moment.
[OOC] WC GM: Paralysis did the job.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Ah.
[OOC] WC GM: But only for a round. Round 3! Jack!
[OOC] WC GM: No focus rolls needed because, again, it's halted.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Surround it!
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Focus the tracks?
Jack Layfield: "Keep latched on sandy, we can do this!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: Bite again
Jack Layfield rolled up 1d20: 2 (2) (ac 2)
[OOC] WC GM: Hits, barely.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Please be careful on the damage. I don't want to faint it. Sandy has growl, right?
[OOC] WC GM: Fainting is not actually a problem this time.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Oh, no? Go to town then.
[OOC] Sam Spade: We break the tank, the rotom comes out.
Esme perks, suddenly.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Sand Attack wouldn't be a bad idea.
[OOC] WC GM: Jack, roll damage.
Sam Spade pulls in front of the rotank. Hopefully her go-kart won't be crushed. It's a small tank…
[OOC] Esme: I like how this tank hasn't had a chance to shoot us since we've engaged it
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Yeah. Remember, we still have two full reflects behind us all.
[OOC] WC GM: Yep. First turn it was moving, then flinch, then paralyze.
[OOC] WC GM: Meanwhile, Sam!
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Now's the time to board the tank, tho.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I missed I thought?
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Any objections to Anna boarding?
[OOC] Max Thorn: None here.
[OOC] WC GM: No, you hit.
[OOC] WC GM: It's dead stop, so 0 evasion.
[OOC] Jack Layfield: but ac 2
[OOC] Jack Layfield: I rolled a 2
[OOC] WC GM: Equal or above, no?
Sam Spade: "Malta, why don't you make sure this sweet thing doesn't hurt my friends, okay? I'm going to make sure it knows we're friends!"
[OOC] Jack Layfield: oh
Sam Spade rolled up 1d20: 6 (6) (Sweet Kiss, AC 6.)
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d8+23: 31 (31) (before super effective)
[OOC] WC GM: SK hits too.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Confused, and -3 to evasion to one round.
Sam Spade rolled up 1d20+3: 13 (13) (Growl, AC 2)
[OOC] WC GM: Max & Esme!
Max Thorn: "Nootaikok, give it the most pitiable look you've got."
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 12 (12) (Baby-Doll Eyes)
[OOC] Max Thorn: AC2, so.
[OOC] WC GM: Yep. That Attack CS is dropping like a stone.
Max Thorn: "Lookit that. That's puppy-dog eyes if I've ever seen such."
Esme pulls around in front to block with Sam. "Gervy, leer it into submission!"
Esme rolled up 1d20: 9 (9) (Leer)
The tank's face recoils a bit.
[OOC] WC GM: Anna!
Anna Tommize drives up besides the tank and starts climbing up on top of it. Meeps, in turn, starts jamming fluff balls all over the gearing on the tracks.
Anna Tommize rolled up 1d20: 5 (5) (Cotton Spore)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Hit I assume?
[OOC] WC GM: Yep
Once Meeps is back on the tank, Anna starts addressing the face.
[OOC] WC GM: But its Speed CS is already -6.
[OOC] WC GM: …let's just call that "it's now speed 0", as discussed.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Yes.
That tank is not moving no more.
Esme: "We got it?"
Anna Tommize climbs up on top of the tank and gulps before addressing the face.
Jack Layfield: "Radical! Go ANNA!"
Max Thorn: "Anna. You've got pokéballs, yes?"
Anna Tommize: "P-Please stop shooting at people? I-I know the wavs are weird from that big thing i-in the sea b-but ya gotta stay steady!"
Anna Tommize looks down to Max and shakes her head.
Max Thorn tosses one up to her.
Anna Tommize leans to catches it, fumbling a bit before securing it in her hands.
The tank's turret looks toward the sea, expression questioning.
Anna Tommize: "Y-you can't feel it o-out there?"
Anna Tommize: "L-Lugia?"
Anna Tommize tilts her head.
Max Thorn blinks. Wait, what?
Esme: "Probably not…it wanted to be hidden, remember?"
[OOC] Max Thorn: No, that's not supposed to be in quotes.
Anna Tommize: "A-anyways, yer tearing yer home apart! Why're you doing this? You even shot your main gun at us w-when we were on the ship!"
Anna Tommize looks back at the sea with a panic'd look.
Max Thorn: "Iceberg."
The surf churns, growing more and more.
Anna Tommize: "S-something's comin!"
Esme perks again.
As if the sea is growling.
Sam Spade gets set to tackle Anna into safety.
Max Thorn: "…Um."
Anna Tommize: "Please I dun want ya t'get hurt!"
Anna Tommize looks pleading at the tank's face, trying to judge its mood.
Sam Spade braces…
The waves fold together, and a giant blade - no, wing of water hauls up from the sea, then crashes down, incoming upon the tank and all near it.
Jack Layfield: "What….what…what." Jack is staring at the ocean. Foundry harbor doesn't normally do that.
[OOC] WC GM: Dodging, I assume?
[OOC] Jack Layfield: yes
Max Thorn gets moving again, sheesh.
Max Thorn rolled up 3d6: 14 (14)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Anna is hiding on the opposite side of the tank turret.
Sam Spade grabs Anna and rolls away from the tank.
Anna Tommize: "Come on!"
Esme slamps on the gas, trying to peel out of the way.
[OOC] Sam Spade: I don't think the tank is gonna help it.
Esme rolled up 3d6: 11 (11)
Anna Tommize offers the pokeball to the rotom.
Anna Tommize: "We gotta run!"
Anna Tommize gulps.
There is a shimmer, and the rotom hops right out of the tank into Anna's pokeball.
Sam Spade: "Anna, what did you do!?"
Anna Tommize leaps back into her cart and SLAMS on the gas.
Anna Tommize: "Ah dunno! It's actin weird!
Anna Tommize: "I-It wasn't l-like this b'fore!"
Just in the nick of time. The wave SMASHES down upon the tank, and then is water again.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Aaaand Anna leaves Sam in the mud.
[OOC] Esme: YEAH
The tank is now a pile of wreckage.
Anna Tommize starts running back into the surf.
Anna Tommize: "Y-you almost k-killed it!"
Anna Tommize: "Y-y'said we were cool!"
Anna Tommize: "L-Like ice, ya said!"
The pokeball, almost unnoticed in Anna's hand, dings.
Jack Layfield: "What the holly hell can do that to an RT tank?"
Esme clambers out of her kart, and starts making her way towards the shore.
Sam Spade gathers her feet under her and gets set to tackle her out of the way of another wave from whatever - Lugia or not - is out there.
Max Thorn: "A legendary pokémon, that's what."
Anna Tommize: "Yer a big jerk after all, huh? I-I take back w-what I said about the ice wall!"
Anna Tommize is in tears.
Max Thorn: "Whether that was Lugia itself or not is kinda immaterial, though."
Anna Tommize: "Yer j-just selfish!"
Max Thorn: "I guess we can claim credit for taking out the drone?"
Jack Layfield: "Anna, your pokeball."
Esme: "…Aww."
Anna Tommize looks down at the pokeball.
Jack Layfield: "You just caught the Rotom."
Anna Tommize: "H-huh…?"
Anna Tommize hugs it.
Anna Tommize: "Ah'm sorry…"
Sam Spade: "Anna. Maybe you just told it that the Rotom was a threat to it."
Anna Tommize: "Yer tank got wrecked…"
Max Thorn: "…In before Meeps gets jealous."
Esme kneels down and prods the water.
Esme: "Yeah, gone."
Anna Tommize heads back t'the tank and starts inspecting the remains.
Anna Tommize: "M-mom's gonna be pissed…"
Max Thorn heads back to the gym.
Anna Tommize starts nervously pulling on a side of her hair.
Sam Spade: "Come on, Anna."
Anna Tommize: "W-wait…."
Sam Spade: "The tank's not important. They can be rebuilt."
Sam Spade: "And your mom said it would be okay if we wrecked it."
Anna Tommize opens her Rotom's ball.
Sam Spade: "…Probably because if we can wreck this, then we can break what it was made to fight…"
Anna Tommize: "A-are y'ok…?"
[OOC] WC GM: 12 XP per trainer's pokemon. Since some trainers have more than one pokemon, the XP can be split as each trainer likes. Also, Anna now has a level 12 rotom.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Alrighty.
[OOC] WC GM: That is, 12 XP per trainer, split among that trainer's pokemon.
Officer Jenny pulls up in her car, gaping at the wreckage. "You…you did it!"
Anna Tommize looks back at Jenny with teary eyes.
Anna Tommize: "Y-yeah…."
Sam Spade: "Something like that."
Esme: "Totally!"
Esme pats Anna on the shoulder.
Sam Spade puts an arm around Anna.
Sam Spade: "I'm good."
Sam Spade: "Please…be careful, though, okay?"
Anna Tommize: "I-I told ya those wavvers were n-no good!"
OfficerJenny: "Are you good to get those go-karts back to the gym? If not, I can give you a ride."
Sam Spade: "There's a difference between not all good and no good. You know that, right?"
Sam Spade: "They can be scared. And lash out."
Sam Spade looks wistfully in towards the center of the continent.
Sam Spade: "….Sometimes I think that's why the MewTwo Wars happened."
Anna Tommize: "W-we're good…It didn't shoot."
Esme: "Our 'friend' was probably just concerned since the-well, YOUR Rotom noticed it."
Esme looks to everyone else. "The friend also likes to keep to itself, if you catch my drift."
Sam Spade: "The tank? It did shoot at us. Meeps blocked it, remember? Since then we didn't give it a chance."
Sam Spade: "Anyway, we should probably head back and collect those badges…"
Anna Tommize: "A-ah mean on th' chase…"
Anna Tommize sends out the Rotom.
Sam Spade: "Like I said, we didn't give it a chance."
Esme claps her hands together. "Oh yeah, we get a badge!"
Anna Tommize: "A-are y'ok?"
Esme: "I keep forgetting about those."
OfficerJenny: "Oh! You caught it! Hmm…well, it's yours now."
Sam Spade: "And I want to see what else I can get the Layfields to let slip."
Jack Layfield: "Well, one more Layfield creation no longer blowing up Foundry Town."
Sam Spade gets a decidedly devious look on her face.
Jack Layfield: "You could just ask."
OfficerJenny: "By the way, how long are you planning to be in town?"
Anna Tommize: "U-uh…"
Sam Spade: "Well, the Jaegers will be here in two days."
Esme: "I wouldn't mind having another day to see the area when it's not on lockdown… there's also that."
Sam Spade: "I don't know if we want to be here when they get here or not."
Sam Spade: "Tim would be helpful, but we'd be putting ourselves at risk."
Sam Spade: "And possibly exposing our wet 'friend' who doesn't want to be talked about."
OfficerJenny: "Miss Spade, right? You're a detective? If you'll be around, we could use your help with-"
There is a scream from a nearby alley.
Officer Jenny sighs and gets out of her car. "…that, probably."
Esme frowns. "That sounds unpleasant."
Sam Spade: "Unpleasant? Maybe. Interesting? DEFINITELY."
Sam Spade practically beats the Officer Jenny to the alley.
[OOC] WC GM: Perception checks, everyone.
Esme rolled up 2d6: 4 (4) (What is Spot)
[OOC] WC GM: Slightly different target number for Anna.
Sam Spade rolled up 3d6: 13 (13)
Jack Layfield rolled up 2d6: 3 (3) (untrained perception)
Anna Tommize rolled up 3d6: 9 (9) (Novice Perception)
Anna feels weights on either side of her head. Sam sees the cause: at some point, a small group of joltik have hopped on to her Meeps-like ear coverings.
Sam Spade: "….Um."
Sam Spade: "Anna."
Sam Spade: "You have joltiks on you."
Anna Tommize: "Eeeeeeh!?"
Sam Spade raises her Pokedex.
Anna's yet to be named Rotom stares at her for a second before laughing, firing pips of electricity at her feet to make her dance.
Anna Tommize: "Yeep! Yeep! Y-yaaah!? W-why!?"
Anna Tommize is now covered in bugs and being harassed by her own pokemon.
Max Thorn rolled up 2d6: 6 (6) (Perceivin'.)
Pokedex: "Joltik. They attach themselves to large-bodied Pokemon and absorb static electricity, which they store in an electric pouch. Joltik that live in cities have learned a technique for sucking electricity from the outlets in houses."
Anna Tommize desperately starts shaking her head to try and get the Joltik off.
The joltik cling, and seem to be…dancing?
Anna Tommize sniffs.
Jack Layfield: "I don't…I don't even."
Anna Tommize: "Whhhyyyyyy"
Sam Spade: "Officer Jenny, this wasn't what you were talking about, was it?"
Max Thorn: "…They like your wavviness, I guess."
Meanwhile, in the alley, Sam comes face to face with…herself? No, just a girl who looks like her, kneeling over a boy who looks like Jack.
Anna Tommize: "P-pliss help…."
Max Thorn: "Nootaikok, Roar!"
Max Thorn rolled up 1d20: 15 (15)
NotSam: "C'mon, get up! This isn't funny!"
Sam Spade: "….Wait."
Sam Spade: "What?"
Sam Spade holds Pokedex again.
[OOC] WC GM: Aiming where?
[OOC] Max Thorn: at the joltiks.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Towards the kids, just kin case.
Pokedex: "No pokemon detected."
Sam Spade: "Excuse me…is something wrong?"
Not-Sam looks up. "My boyfriend fai…" She blinks.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Smells like zorua. :V
Sam Spade: "What's his name?"
NotSam: "Umm. We were hiding from the…" She blinks again, looking straight at Anna.
Sam Spade slides her pokedex back in her pocket.
Not-Sam gulps.
Sam Spade: "Ah."
Not-Sam points at Anna and SCREAMS!
Malta flutters over to Not-Sam's shoulder and preens her hair?
It's super effective! Not-Sam faints.
Anna Tommize looks scared.
Sam Spade lunges in to catch her before she falls.
Anna Tommize: "T-this isn't makin a-any sense…"
Sam Spade: "…It's possible they're scared of Anna, more likely they're scared of joltik."
OfficerJenny: "…okay, now I have to ask you not to leave town until we get to the bottom of this."
Sam Spade: "Um. Why?"
Anna Tommize looks back at Jenny.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Are the joltiks hopping offa Anna?
Finally, the joltiks have had enough and hop away.
Esme blinks.
Anna Tommize blinks.
Anna Tommize: "W-why…!?"
Sam Spade: "I mean, surely you're capable of finding their parents."
Max Thorn scritches Nootaikok between the ears, who responds with a pleased-sounding "vuuuuul" .
Officer Jenny kneels and rolls Not-Jack over. "This is just like the other cases." She points to a small bite mark at the back-base of Not-Jack's skull.
Sam Spade blinks
Anna Tommize looks down.
Sam Spade: "What?"
Anna Tommize: "Eep!? D-did they d-do it t'me!?"
Jack Layfield: "Um what the heck."
Jack Layfield: "How is that me."
Officer Jenny looks up at Sam. "Pairs of people who look like you have been attacked for a couple days now. Each time, we find a bite like this."
Anna Tommize: "C-crap, what if it's a wav reception chip, o-or a Silph corp brainscope, o-or…"
Sam Spade: "….Wait…"
Esme: "A brainwhat?"
Sam Spade: "Pairs that look like me and him?"
Officer Jenny nods.
Sam Spade: "But we never even met before we left…"
OfficerJenny: "There aren't that many."
Sam Spade: "…Wait."
Jack Layfield: "This is those idiots at Sky City again."
Sam Spade: "Who were those guys again?"
Anna Tommize: "A brainscope! T-they say the Rockets never really left Silph and that their scientists developed a secret implantable EEG to keep track of the ones who know…"
Anna Tommize gulps.
Esme: "Neat!"
Max Thorn blinks at Jack. "Idiots? What?"
Anna Tommize: "I-It's not neat! I-it's scary!"
Sam Spade grunts and lifts Not-Sam.
Sam Spade: "Let's get these two in your car, at any rate."
Jack Layfield: "It's not scary, it's ridiculous. This is common thugs wanting revenge."
Sam Spade: "Not that common. Very, very odd, in fact."
Officer Jenny puts a hand on Not-Sam to stop Sam. "I've called for an ambulance. Let the medics handle them."
Sam Spade: "Common thugs would be attacking us."
Sam Spade: "Oh. Alright, then."
Anna Tommize: "W-why d'they look like us…?"
Esme frowns, actually taking in the scene.
Esme: "This is a bit more calculated, yes."
Sam Spade: "They looked like me and Jack because of a coincidence."
OfficerJenny: "Not you. Just Jack and his friend here."
Sam Spade: "They were attacked because of the same coincidence."
Sam Spade: "Because both of us happened to be in Sky City watching Team Derp at the same time."
OfficerJenny: "…you think you know who's been doing this?"
Sam Spade: "Ah, it was a criminal Team working out of the Airport. I never really heard their name, though. What was it, Jack?"
Sam Spade: "Stormcloud, was it? Honestly, though, if this is what they're up to now, Team Derp definitely fits much better."
Sam Spade frowns and checks Not-Sam for a bite like Not-Jack had.
Esme: "Hm. Never heard of them."
Not-Sam just fainted, apparently in terror. No bite mark, though Sam does spy a tiny bit of yellow scurrying away.
