Session 23

The next morning, Tim is up before the rest of the party. He is staring out to the north.
Anna Tommize groggily rubs her eyes.
Anna Tommize: "T-Tim…?"
The lands here are increasingly barren. Not desert per se, but definitely badlands, with rocky spires and occasional arches here and there.
Sam Spade wakes up to the feel of a bird nesting on her face and occasionally pecking.
Tim acknowledges Anna with a look, of mixed dread and resignation.
Sands is nowhere to be seen.
Max Thorn has breakfast going, as usual.
Anna Tommize: "I-Izz gonna be OK…"
Anna Tommize: "I-I-I think…"
Anna Tommize: I-I know parents can be… "
Anna Tommize gulps and curls up slightly.
Anna Tommize: "N-nevamind…"
Tim leans into Anna's side and sighs. Anna can see the tears he is fighting not to spill.
Sam Spade sits and watches.
Anna Tommize throws an arm over Tim.
Anna Tommize: "Iss…it's hard."
Anna Tommize: "B-b-but, u-umm, my brother always said…"
Esme is groggily pushed out of her tent by Lucrece. Seems she's been staying up late.
Anna Tommize: "A-Anna!"
Anna Tommize: "You've gots t'be yer own person!"
Anna Tommize: "You can't live f-f-fer your parents!"
Anna Tommize: "And it's…izz terrifying, yeh?"
Tim nods, slowly.
Anna Tommize: "B-b-but when I…"
Anna Tommize: "W-when I left…Iz scary but…nice, too?"
Tim looks up at Anna.
Anna Tommize: "Y-you don't need t'go o-or not go…"
Anna Tommize: "B-b-but stand up f-fer yerself if y'do…"
Anna Tommize looks down and cracks a small, terrified smile.
Tim: "Did you ever break your parents' wishes, while doing exactly what they said?"
Anna Tommize: "Yeh."
Tim: "Did you borrow a small army of your parents' friends to do so, and tricked them all into helping?"
Anna Tommize: "M-Mom got so mad…"
Anna Tommize: "A-army? Not army but…umm, this one time m-me and bro took Sensor and uh…"
Anna Tommize: "W-w-we may have…blacked out her office s-so school couldn't call her…"
Anna Tommize: "S-sensor couldn't t-talk yet…"
Tim snickers.
Anna Tommize squeezes Tim slightly.
Anna Tommize: "D-dun be like me…"
Sam Spade: "I think being like Anna would not be a bad thing."
Anna Tommize: "L-livin' fer…"
Tim: "I'd rather be like you than like me. Sometimes."
Sam Spade: "But you should probably be like yourself."
Anna Tommize: "Livin' fer other o-old people…"
Sam Spade: "Useless advice, I know…"
Max Thorn: "Be someone whom you feel you can be proud to be."
Max Thorn: "Whoever that someone is."
Max Thorn: "If that means defying parental wishes, sometimes that happens."
Esme yawns. "I am late to this conversation, but what Max said."
Sam Spade: "But come on."
Max Thorn: "The question you should ask yourself is, 'now that I know what I know, would I have done any different?'"
Sam Spade: "With the exception of Max, none of us are old enough to be giving life lessons."
Anna Tommize looks around and shivers slightly.
Esme: "He's like, a year older."
Sands pops up out of the ground next to Sam, just far enough away to not unbalance her.
Anna Tommize: "S-suddenly we're all awake…?"
Anna Tommize: "O-oh, an uh…Tim?"
Tim: "Yeah?"
Meeps harumphs and backs into Tim.
Anna Tommize: "W-wool is soft…"
Anna Tommize: "When yer, u-uh, w-when y'can't…"
Tim is knocked over.
Anna Tommize: "Deal with stuff."
Max Thorn purses his lips, then distributes cups of chocolate milk.
Sam Spade: "Hey Sands."
Sam Spade: "Oooh, thanks!"
Sands: "Shrew."
Anna Tommize: "J-just try a-and focus on sensation…?"
Sam Spade: "Forget what I said about you being old, Max. You're just a bit…distinguished!"
Anna Tommize runs a a hand through Meeps' thick wool and exhales.
Max Thorn squints at Sam.
Tim wriggles out from under Meeps and stands up.
Anna Tommize smiles at him slightly.
Sam Spade probably didn't mean anything bad, particularly, but with her it's hard to tell.
Tim: "So…you don't HAVE to come if you don't want to."
Tim: "My old man wants to see me."
Tim: "But…" He looks at the party. "…please?"
Max Thorn: "Regardless. All anyone can do is the best they can do, and all *I* will ever ask of you is to do what *you* think is the right thing to do. Not what your parents think is right. Not even, necessarily, what *I* think is right."
Anna Tommize: "Y-yeh of course."
Max Thorn: "If you really think we'd abandon you, you have another think coming."
Sam Spade: "Much as it's terrifying to contemplate the idea of an actual physical encounter with a mewtwo…it's…also…"
Sam Spade: "To be honest, Tim, if you'd asked us politely to stay behind, I'm not sure I could agree."
Anna Tommize gulps.
Anna Tommize: "M-mewtwos are…s'posed to be real smart yeh?"
Tim smiles. "And that's why you're here."
Max Thorn: "We're friends. Friends stick together."
Anna Tommize: "S-so mebbe it'll realize I ain't wanna be…U-uh…"
Anna Tommize: "Well, smarter than Sensor? I-I dunno…"
Anna Tommize bites her lip.
Tim gives Anna an unreadable look. "That mewtwo is only as smart as my dad."
Anna Tommize: "Hah?"
Sam Spade: "…That's…interesting."
Esme coughs. "Oh yeah. As long things remain… well, civil. Which they hopefully should!"
Sam Spade: "That mewtwo, or mewtwos in general, orrrrr perhaps I should not give rise to rampant speculation before dealing with a powerful telepath."
Sam Spade: "So, breakfast? It smells delicious!"
Sands: "SAAAAND!" He picks up his and Tim's portions and digs in - then gives Tim a guilty look before offering up what's left of Tim's.
Tim smiles as he walks over and takes it, then digs in in a mirror of Sands.
They even lick their lips in perfect sync.
[OOC] WC GM: Anything else before the party gets going?
[OOC] Max Thorn: Don't think so?
[OOC] Sam Spade: Not from here
[OOC] Esme: zoot zoot
Once camp is fully packed and everyone on their way, a few fighting pokemon are seen here and there, using the rock pillars as punching bags. In some cases, it almost looks like a type of feeding: honing skills upon the scenery, pulverizing the ground in a way slightly reminiscent of the pictures of the RT tanks.
Anna Tommize: "Wooh…"
Esme: "Definitely in Fighting-country."
Sam Spade surveys the area.
Anna Tommize: "O-owww…"
Anna Tommize starts rubbing her temple.
The area is not exactly flooded with pokemon, but Sam gets the impression of a vast natural dojo, stretching for kilometers.
Anna Tommize: "U-uuuhhh…"
Sam Spade: "You okay, Anna?"
Anna Tommize: "M-my head is…"
Anna Tommize rubs her temple.
Anna Tommize: "P-p-please b-be careful…"
Max Thorn: "…Probably best if we're through quickly, I think."
Anna Tommize: "There's…up ahead there're…"
Sam Spade moves up to support Anna on the side that Meeps isn't already supporting.
Sam Spade: "Yeah, your mom hinted at something…"
Anna Tommize: "E-eerr, the uh…"
Anna Tommize: "The wavs're…"
Sam Spade: "Malta! Eyes up!"
Anna Tommize: "All Jaggie…"
Malta bursts into the air from Sam's shoulder.
Sam Spade: "Yeah. Betcha there are Jaegers waiting to ambush us…"
Anna Tommize turns around starts rooting through her bag before start to pull out rolls and rolls of tinfoil.
Anna Tommize: "N-noo…not people…"
Sam Spade: "…But…how much of that is just the boss and his mewtwo?"
Anna Tommize: "It's…"
Anna Tommize looks back at the group pleading.
Esme: "Foil?"
Anna Tommize: "P-please be careful…!"
Anna Tommize: "Y-yeh…
Anna Tommize rips off a sheet and starts wrapping it around her head, crinkling it to hopefully have it stick.
Esme rubs her chin. "Ahh, for the wavs, right."
Esme: "Must be a bunch of feedback."
Anna Tommize starts waving the foil back at the party.
Anna Tommize: "Y-you all too…"
Sam Spade: "Probably a good idea. Just in case."
Max Thorn: "…I'll be fine."
Sam Spade: "I…"
Sam Spade hesitates.
Sam Spade: "I think I know my mind well enough to know if something's getting in."
Sam Spade: "And I think I'd learn more from what they wanted than they would from being there."
Esme: "Ah… Merci, but I should be alright, I have a…" She starts to palm the gem around her neck, but pauses. "Huh. That's different!"
As the party marches on, Pillar Field - an exact match to the picture seen earlier - crests the horizon, off to the side of the Route.
Esme: "Yes, this warrants investigation, so I'll pass. But remind me to make you something later."
Anna Tommize: "P-please…"
Anna Tommize: "It's not…"
Anna Tommize: "T-they're not…"
Anna Tommize: "You'll think yer you…"
A spark of purple rises up from Pillar Field, and everyone gets the sense of eyes suddenly upon them. All around, all the fighting pokemon pause in their training and look up at the spark.
Tim: "I'm right here, dad."
Max Thorn sighs. "Welp, here we go."
Sam Spade follows along with Tim.
Everything burns purple for a moment, then the party finds themselves in Pillar Field. Countless pillars of wood, stone, and iron - burial markers, all - stretch every which way.
No one else is present, save for a man wearing a sand-colored hoodie and cargo pants, on both knees with his back to the party.
Anna Tommize carefully holds her hat on.
Anna Tommize: "P-please be careful with those!"
Anna Tommize: "Y-you might hurt someone!"
Max Thorn looks around, then puts his hands in his pockets. Roughly what time of day is it? Morning still?
Sam Spade rests a fist over her heart for a second.
Far up above, the purple spark descends - yep, that there is a mewtwo, as if right out of the pokedex.
By now it is noon. The mewtwo descends as if out of the sun.
Esme: "Neat!"
Anna Tommize: "Ggrrrr…"
Meeps stands in front of Anna as if to shield her.
As the mewtwo nears the ground, its purple aura fades in around the man, who begins to levitate. His legs unfold out from under him in a manner suggesting a marionetted puppet.
Max Thorn: "Good afternoon, sir."
Sam Spade says nothing.
The man spins around, hands in his pockets. The front of his hoodie has an abstract scrawl in darker orange of some kind of pokemon - a haunter, perhaps?
His face looks tired. There is a small dark spot on his forehead - maybe a ritual third eye? Then his eyes open, staring.
Anna Tommize: "…Uh…"
Anna Tommize: "A-are you OK…?"
JaegerBoss: "Tim!" His mouth widens in a smile. A couple seconds later, his eyes smile too.
Anna Tommize raises a hand and takes a step forward.
Tim: "Hello, father. Everyone, this is my dad. You can call him Moth."
Sam Spade takes a hesitating breath. This is….creepy.
Sam Spade: "Hello, Moth?"
Moth: "Hello. Hello! So you are the companions Tim chose?"
Anna Tommize: "I-i-i-t's n-nice t'meet you Moth…"
Max Thorn: "It is an honour to meet you, sir."
Sam Spade: "Yes."
Moth takes one hand out of his pocket. It jerks, stiffly, to reach a held-out-to-shake position.
Anna Tommize: "P-P-Please relax y-you're wavs…?"
Esme waves.
Max Thorn steps forward to shake hands with the man.
Anna Tommize: "Y-y-you're gonna…"
Moth's head tilts, abruptly, 15 degrees to the side. "Wavs?"
Anna Tommize: "Y-you're gonna…"
Anna Tommize: "Y-you dunno you do it…?"
Anna Tommize: "U-u-uh…"
Moth drifts forward suddenly but slightly, putting his hand in Max's with a whole body motion.
Anna Tommize starts hurriedly making Moth a hat.
Moth hovers up and down to shake hands.
Sam Spade: "Um."
Moth: "So did Tim kidnap you or did you kidnap Tim? I have to know!"
Tim facepalms.
Sam Spade wonders now, what…but never mind.
Anna Tommize: "N-neither…?"
Sam Spade: "Um."
Anna Tommize: "W-we made friends…"
Anna Tommize: "U-umm…can you please wear this?"
Sam Spade: "Kidnapping means a lack of consent. There was pretty much none of that."
Anna Tommize raises a newly made tinfoil hat to Moth.
Sam Spade: "He picked us, but we could have not gone along with him, so…no kidnapping on either part."
Anna Tommize: "Y-you're…painful to be around…"
Anna Tommize seems to be wincing at a regular rhythm.
Esme: "A mutual arrangement, oui."
Max Thorn shakes, then steps back. "It's a mutual arrangement. We're all present on our own recognizance, not in any manner compelled."
The tinfoil hat glows purple and leaps out of Anna's hands, drifting up through the air before settling on Moth's head. "How lovely." Moth does not look at Anna.
Anna Tommize exhales in relief.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Where is the mewtwo looking?
Anna Tommize: "Fff…."
Anna Tommize: "G-g-g-g-g-dammit…"
The mewtwo is hovering over the entire scene, looking mostly at Moth but also the rest of the party.
Anna Tommize points a finger at the mewtwo.
Tim: "What they said."
Anna Tommize: "D-d-do you have to fling that kind of power constantly? N-not even the lugers wuzz t-t-this bad!"
Moth: "Lugers?"
Anna Tommize: "L-uggg…L-Lew-lew-lewg…"
Anna Tommize: "Lugia…"
Esme pats Anna. "Well, primary typing and all that, a bit more in line with its essence…"
Anna Tommize kneels down and grabs her head.
Anna Tommize: "D-dammit…"
Moth's tinfoil hat slips slightly, covering his third eye. His aura flicks out and he begins to crumple, until the hat is pulled off. He hovers and stands back up, but the hat is flung into the far distance.
Anna Tommize winces again.
Anna Tommize falls over on her side.
Moth: "DiD YoU sAy…lugia?"
Sam Spade looks from Moth to the MewTwo, speculating for a NO NO SPECULATING SPECULATING CAN WAIT
Anna Tommize: "P-P-P-PLEASE"
Now Moth stares directly at Anna.
Sam Spade fashions another tinfoil hat and doubles it up on Anna. She's in a lot of pain…
Anna Tommize curls up, pauses, and starts carefully vocalizing sounds like a modem dialing
Sam Spade: "Yes. Lugia talked to her."
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Using move: Reflect
Anna Tommize breathes a sigh of relief.
Moth's head jerks to look at Sam. "Really. What did it say?"
Anna Tommize carefully stands up.
Esme frowns. "Gimme some of that tinfoil…"
Anna Tommize: "I-it was a cagey jerk."
Anna Tommize passes it to Esme.
Sam Spade: "As little as it possibly could, from what I saw. I'm afraid I wasn't there, though."
Anna Tommize: "Then it blew a tank up."
Esme looks to Moth. "Mostly that it wanted to be left alone, really-It was just concerned, Anna! Also Meeps, c'mere."
Sam Spade blinks.
Anna Tommize: "I-IT seems surprised that I noticed it…"
Sam Spade: "That…"
Moth: "Heh. A tank."
Sam Spade takes a hesitant step towards Moth.
Moth seems not to notice. "Was it a rrraidertank?"
Anna Tommize: "Y-yes?"
Anna Tommize: "I-I saved the Rotom though…"
Moth: "Heh. Heh heh. I should've known they'd have some still here."
Sam Spade: "A raidertank that was never deployed."
Max Thorn: "It was destroyed, though."
Moth: "For your sake, please do destroy any more that you find."
Sam Spade: "That's the plan."
Sam Spade: "We need to see, I think…"
Sam Spade: "We need to see it all. With our own eyes."
Moth: "Excellent. Tim, I see you're recruiting new Jaegers already!"
Anna Tommize pauses.
Sam Spade is not staring at the 'third eye.' Not at all.
Moth: "You want to SEE? Heh. I think I can arrange that."
Sam Spade gathers the presence of mind to smirk at Moth.
Max Thorn: "Oh. *We* didn't destroy it. Lugia did."
Sam Spade: "We need to see it all. Not just what you want us to see, but the rest, too."
Anna Tommize: "S-s-am…"
Esme motions at Meeps'. "Gimme a lil fluff to help out Anna?"
Moth: "Oh, of course, of course. And you wouldn't have seen it from here."
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Fluff?
[OOC] Esme: It's a sheep!
Sam Spade: "No. Tim is going to be taking us to your homeland."
Meeps pauses, looks at Esme, paws the ground, then trots over.
Moth: "Yes. Yes. You should see it. But you will only see it as it is now!"
Moth: "Tell me. Do you know WhY? Why they DID THIS?"
Max Thorn: "Which 'they'?"
Sam Spade sighs.
Moth drifts back from Sam.
Sam Spade: "Because of him, I'd assume."
Sam Spade points up at the mewtwo.
Anna Tommize: "T-they didn't intend to…"
Moth: "Oh no. Well, yes, but only one. We're the one that lived, oh ho."
Sam Spade: "Because what happened to Dojji could have happened to Amoda - different perhaps, but just as bad."
Sam Spade: "I'm not thinking about that."
Moth: "No no no. I see, the reports were correct."
Sam Spade: "Not thinking at all about the fact that someone shot you and you forced your mind into him."
Moth: "No, what happened to Dojji could never happen to Amoda." Moth grimaces. "BECAUSE AMODA DID THAT TO DOJJI!"
Moth: "So here. See what you would never have seen. SEE THE TRUTH!"
Max Thorn: "We need to get the whole picture, not just what you think happened."
All goes purple…
Anna Tommize: "T-they didn't know the tanks would r-reproduce…"
Esme nod nods at the Mareep, grabbing only a pinchful. "Just a tiny tiny bit." She eyes Moth warily as he starts getting louder.
Anna Tommize: "T-they're not trying t-to kill you, j-just farming shards…"
…the party is in the turrets of tanks, their pokemon driving. The tanks - a squadron, with another one with Anna's father in the lead - race over grasslands.
RT tanks flank the formation.
Anna Tommize checks her hat.
Anna's hat is still in place.
The fact that each tank's controls are precisely adapted to each trainer's pokemon further reinforces that this is an illusion.
Anna Tommize gulps, forces herself to breathe, and climbs out of the tank.
Malta's controls, in particular, seem especially unlikely.
Anna finds herself buckled in tightly.
Anna Tommize: "Errr….!"
There is no sign of Tim or Sands.
Sam Spade: "I said with our own eyes, Moth!"
Anna Tommize: "M-mind control wavs…"
Lieutenant Tommize: "Forward! Seven and Ten are just up ahead!"
Esme: "Uhh." She peeks over the edge of her tank. "Yeah, going to finish working on this." She starts working the foil and fluff together into a ball.
Anna Tommize: "I-I-Is it perceptual…?"
Anna Tommize closes her eyes and tries to feel the ground.
Max Thorn: "…Why are you adapting the illusion to us? Show us what happened, without alterations, if you please."
Up ahead is what looks like a lab. A fierce battle rages around it - on the ground, in the air, and judging by sudden bursts of ground underground too.
Anna feels steel around her. Looks like this is an all-senses illusion.
Anna Tommize starts shaking in fear.
Anna Tommize: "M-motor control…"
Lieutenant Tommize: "Load the special ammunition, squad! Remember, we're here to destroy the objectives; let everyone else clear us a path!"
Anna Tommize: "No, n-no guarantee…"
Sam Spade watches and waits.
[OOC] WC GM: What do the party's pokemon do?
[OOC] Sam Spade: Can we see anything special about the 'special ammunition?
[OOC] WC GM: They are under player control too.
Anna Tommize: "M-Meeps, p-p-please…t-thundershock the chassis…"
[OOC] Sam Spade: How much are they allowed to diverge from the illusion?
[OOC] WC GM: You don't know yet.
Anna Tommize: "D-down please…"
Looking at the back end of the gun, Sam sees a crystalline shell ready to load.
Malta squawks a bit, having been pulled from the sky into a tiny metal cage.
Sam Spade: "We're…"
[OOC] WC GM: More specifically: try and find out.
Sam Spade hesitates.
Sam Spade: "Didn't Madame Tommize say that your father's wingmen were here in the Pillars?"
Anna can feel Meeps' thundershock through the chassis. Her tank slows a bit.
Max Thorn checks for anything that would list the objectives…
Sam Spade: "Suddenly I'm not entirely sure Moth is giving us memories of Dojji. Entirely."
Max Thorn: "Antheia, Nootaikok, stop the tank."
Lucrece lets loose a series of concerned chirps and beeps, being wired into the front apparently.
Malta drives forward. Too much to see up there, and Malta's just as curious as her trainer.
Max finds two trainers pictured - one a punk with a mohawk and leathers, one looking exactly like Tim but with a military uniform.
Max's tank comes to a sudden halt upon his pokemons' command.
[OOC] Max Thorn: Do the pictures come with a list of /why/ they're the objectives?
The punk's picture has a 7 in one corner. Tim-alike's has a 10 in the same place.
[OOC] WC GM: Nope.
[OOC] Sam Spade: Well, Tim-alike is a mewtwo trainer….
[OOC] WC GM: But given what illusion-Lt.-Tommize just said…
Max Thorn considers. "Why would her father have wanted to destroy you?"
Anna Tommize sits in her tank…
Anna Tommize: "Hmm…"
Esme perks up. "Buh! Ah, lemme see…" She peeks up from her work and down the barrel, can she recognize any properties?
A large section of the lab's wall explodes. When the dust settles…yeah, that's trainer 7 right there, anger etched on his face, a mewtwo right next to him.
Anna Tommize: "M-Meeps…"
[OOC] Sam Spade: Yeah. That's a lot of mewtwos…
Anna Tommize: "C-can you load a shell, e-ermm…"
Anna Tommize starts looking to see if any are marked 'armor piercing'.
Esme: "Psychic-essence, a custom job, non-naturally occurring?"
Anna finds a label on the crystal shell: "Trainer Hijack" . Meeps is not in position to load the shell, but Anna is - she just needs to push it forward and close the door.
Anna Tommize starts looking for other shells. Ordinary ones.
Trainer 7's mewtwo begins blasting the terrain. The tank squadron is far enough away to not be immediately targeted.
Sam Spade: "Trainer Hij-"
Anna finds a range of other ammunition, including some armor piercing.
Sam Spade: "Does that mean…"
Sam Spade: "Was Amoda trying to *take* Dojji's MewTwos?"
Max Thorn: "… Fire the Trainer Hijack rounds into the ground."
Sam Spade: "Or is Moth a result of the shell not doing what it was supposed to?"
Sam Spade: "…smart."
Anna Tommize loads an armor piercing shell. Looking around she tries to find the sighting device.
Max Thorn: "Do not, under any circumstances, allow them to strike a human being or a pokemon."
Anna finds it easily. Apparently, the trainers are in the gunners' seats.
Sam Spade loads the trainer hijack and fires it into the ground.
Anna Tommize finds her father's tank, and tries to put the tracks in the middle of her crosshair.
Lieutenant Tommize fires at Trainer 7. The mewtwo sets up a shell to deflect - but the shell passes right through. Trainer 7 seizes up, as does his mewtwo.
Max Thorn does the same, ensuring that the Trainer Hijack round is discharged to no effect.
Anna Tommize fires.
Sam Spade pops the commander's hatch open, trying to get a better view.
Anna Tommize starts loading another armor piercing shell.
[OOC] WC GM: Anna: Combat check.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: 2d6?
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah
Anna Tommize rolled up 2d6: 5 (5)
Anna barely scores a hit - but at this range, at an undodging target, she still hits. Her illusion-father turns and GLARES at her. "What treachery is this?"
Anna Tommize gulps and flinches at her father's glare.
Anna Tommize closes her eyes and tries to picture Tim, before going back to load another shell.
Trainer 7 is wracked by purple lightning, that extends to his mewtwo, frying both of them. Soon enough only his charred skeleton remains; nothing remains of the mewtwo.
Anna Tommize gulps.
Max Thorn: "Some hijack. Arceus preserve us…"
Anna Tommize: "M-Meeps! C-can y-you hit the g-gas?"
Lieutenant Tommize draws a pistol. "No! No! We must win this!" He aims into the lab - you can see a terrified not-Tim, another mewtwo floating behind him.
Max Thorn loads an antipersonnel round and fires upon Lt Tommize.
Sam Spade: "How real is this?"
Anna Tommize loads the armor piercing shell and tries to sight the next tank firing crystal shells.
Sam Spade: "How…is it illusion?"
Max Thorn rolled up 2d6: 8 (8) (Combat)
Esme frowns. "Still not sure on that front?"
Sam Spade: "Because Moth still has that bullet hole."
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Anna's not using the anti-personnel rounds because she doesn't want to hurt anyone and she's not totally sure who's real.
Sam Spade: "The one 'Lieutenant' Tommize is about to give him."
Sam Spade: "But…there were plenty of other tanks here that had those crystal shells."
Anna Tommize starts fumbling for the radio.
Sam Spade: "And back in Dojji, the pilots weren't trainers on their first journey, but trained men and women who knew first-hand how dangerous a mewtwo could be."
Anna Tommize: "T-t-t-this is Anna Tommize! I-if you're real, p-please break formation…!"
Max Thorn: "I'm not sure what this illusion is intended to prove, but I am not in any way responsible for the actions of others' parents, and I would rather build a better world. Dwelling on the past won't fix that. We must, and I stress that most advisedly, *MUST* look to the future."
The illusion slows to a halt. Moth's voice echoes. "Heh. Heh heh. I see Amodans are as Amodans were."
Anna Tommize: "W-well, I don't w-wanna hurt no-one!"
Sam Spade frowns.
Anna Tommize: "I-I aimed at the moving bits…"
Slowly, the battlefield fades back to Pillar Field.
Sam Spade: "What do you mean, Moth?"
Anna Tommize checks her body position relative to the illusion.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Did she have motor control?
Moth and his mewtwo are not present, but his voice sounds. "You wished an unaltered view of the past. I gave you one."
[OOC] WC GM: Yeah.
[OOC] WC GM: And you're standing back in Pillar Field in reality again.
Sam Spade: "The pilots did then what we did this time?"
Anna Tommize exhales a sigh of relief.
Max Thorn: "…I find that unlikely."
Sam Spade: "Deliberately wasting their shots?"
Anna Tommize: "C-consent is important in illusions!"
Anna Tommize: "T-that's dangerous!"
Sam Spade: "Or…"
Sam Spade: "Was it not an illusion?"
Anna Tommize: "P-please treat people well!"
Moth: "They could not bring themselves to fire. All but one."
Moth: "At least, not in my engagement."
Sam Spade: "Ah. Not what we did, but close enough."
Esme pulls out some yellow shards, and starts molding them around the fluff/foil. "Oh. Convenient pacing on that, then."
Moth: "But neither could they bring themselves to survive."
Sam Spade: "Yeah. Ten - or more - mewtwo trainers, and only one left alive."
Anna Tommize: "W-well, if Amodans didn't want to hurt you, why are you…"
Moth: "Ten. It has been so long since I heard that name."
Anna Tommize: "W-we want our government back…"
Sam Spade: "And we've only met the one Amodan tanker."
Anna Tommize: "E-even if it was run by Zoroark…"
Sam Spade: "He can't do that, Anna. He still hurts too much."
Moth: "You speak of 'Amodans' as if you are one people."
Max Thorn: "So you're saying you should have preferred death, then?"
Anna Tommize: "W-well you used the word first…"
Sam Spade: "Even if he knows it's better. Even if he knows he's just lashing out…"
Moth: "I charge you. Find the truth. Of Amoda. Of Dojji. AND of Gaela."
Sam Spade: "Gaela…"
Anna Tommize: "W-well you're like, the second superpowered thing to tell me to do crap…"
Sam Spade: "That was the only one that we weren't already going to do."
Anna Tommize: "I-I just wanna not get shot…"
Max Thorn: "I was planning on that anyhow."
Anna Tommize: "That stupid mizzinger was…"
Sam Spade: "Welp, it's on the checklist now."
Esme moves over to Anna, offering her a small crystal on a string, with the foilfluff inside. "Third, if you think about it."
Anna Tommize: "…?"
Esme: "And we're trying, mostly."
Anna Tommize accepts the strange device handed to her.
Sam Spade: "So really, it's the third Legendary who's told us to do what we were already planning to do."
Anna Tommize: "E-esme…?"
Sam Spade: "Way to go, Legendaries."
Esme: "Oh! Try wearing this, I don't know about the wav stuff, but it may help you focus, just a bit."
Max Thorn: "But…tell me. What world do *you* want to see?"
Anna Tommize gulps and pulls it over.
[OOC] Esme: here have a +5 SpDef focus
Anna Tommize: "T-the illusion went r-right through…"
Anna Tommize: "I-I need t't'rexamine my methods…"
Sam Spade throws a scornful look at Moth, then a mostly-scornful but slightly doubtful look at the mewtwo, then back at Moth with a bit less scorn and a bit more doubt. Still not sure which eyes he/they are using.
Moth: "A world of survival. A world fit for my…'son'."
[OOC] WC GM: Moth and his mewtwo are no longer visible.
Sam Spade: "Which would that be? Tim? Or the one in the egg?"
Anna Tommize: "Y-you're not gonna try and body s-swap to Tim?"
Moth: "…what egg?"
Max Thorn: "Is that a world of peace and harmony, or a world of division and strife?"
Sam Spade turns around, futilely looking for Moth.
Anna Tommize: "I-I thought you cloned him s-so you could take over his body…"
Anna Tommize: "A-and live forever…"
Max Thorn: "Tim has an egg. Looks like…this." He tries his best to project a mental image of the egg for Moth to pluck.
Anna Tommize: "Ish Purple!"
Anna Tommize: "And Wavvy!"
Tim digs around in his pack, bringing out his egg.
Max Thorn: "…Or he could show it. That works, too."
Esme: "Might as well, alright brought it up."
Moth: "A mewtwo egg? Those don't exist."
Tim: "But it's right-"
Sam Spade: "…What else don't you know?"
Sam Spade: "What else can't you see?"
The egg shimmers and morphs.
Sam Spade: "Wait wait wait wait-"
Anna Tommize: "W-well it sure seems l-like an egg…"
Esme: "I don't think it's gonna."
The egg turns into a ditto, who seems to be sweatdropping.
Anna Tommize: "…"
Sam Spade: "….Hey."
Tim: "What?"
Esme pulls out her pokedex. "More ditto!"
Anna Tommize: "I-it's the damn Mizzinger."
Sam Spade: "No."
Sam Spade: "Well, maybe."
Anna Tommize: "Meeps!"
Anna Tommize: "Thundershock!"
Esme: "That's what I'm trying to check."
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Water flying let's do this
Sam Spade: "It could just as easily be a failed attempt at a cloned - ANNA NO TIM'S STILL HOLDING-"
Pokedex: "Ditto. It can freely recombine its own cellular structure to transform into other life-forms."
Max Thorn: "…Huh."
Esme: "Well it came up that way the first time at the factory, too…"
The ditto morphs into a copy of Sands and digs away.
Sam Spade: "Um."
Sam Spade: "Tim, did you use the cloning machines without permission?"
Max Thorn: "Malta, peck that ditto?"
Malta pecks! Assuming the ditto hasn't escaped yet.
Tim: "Maaaybe?"
[OOC] WC GM: Roll to hit.
Sam Spade rolled up 1d20: 5 (5)
The ditto is too fast! It is underground before Malta's peck can land.
Sam Spade: "And Dittos are what happens when you try to make a MewTwo and fail…unless it decides to pretend to be an egg."
Sam Spade: "…Well, that's one mystery resolved…"
Sam Spade: "Well played, Moth. This round goes to you…"
Esme looks around. "Looks like it's gone."
The group is all alone in Pillar Field. Silence reigns, as the sun slips into afternoon.
Anna Tommize: "…Moth is gone."
Anna Tommize: "T-Tim, how'd you get that Egg again…?"
Max Thorn: "Well."
Sam Spade: "Indeed."
Tim: "I…I thought my dad gave it to me, with a note saying it'd hatch before we got through all the cities."
Tim frowns. "The note vanished when I removed it. I wondered what was up with that."
Max Thorn: "Someone probably pranked you."
Tim: "But who would do such a thing…?"
Anna Tommize: "Does he ever move without blasting out mind control wavs?"
Anna Tommize: "It's not ethical!"
Tim: "Who, my dad? Umm…not…really?"
Sam Spade: "Well, only one of them has a functioning brain."
Max Thorn: "Someone who's jealous of your status, probably."
Sam Spade: "I think…when your dad shot him, his mind went into the MewTwo."
Sam Spade: "…And so now he has to use the mewtwo to move his own body."
Sam Spade hesitates.
Sam Spade: "Am I right, Tim?"
Tim: "Ehhh?" He blinks.
Sam Spade: "It's the only reason I can think that'd fit why you said that *this* MewTwo was only as smart as your dad."
Max Thorn: "Given how he referred to Tim…"
Tim: "They're, like, inseparable. And I've never seen my dad's pokemon go into a pokeball."
Sam Spade: "So you don't know if I'm right and I have to go unfulfilled again."
Sam Spade: "Ah, well."
Max Thorn: "You could ask him next time we talk, I suppose."
Max Thorn: "And I'm fairly certain there'll *be* a next time."
Tim: "I didn't see whatever he was showing you, but it sounded like you thought you had some kind of guns?"
Sam Spade: "Less subtly, perhaps, cuz I kind of asked it this time and he ignored me. I figure fifty fifty if I ask him straight out next time, he'll still ignore me."
Sam Spade: "Not guns."
Sam Spade: "He showed us a tank battle."
Max Thorn: "He had us reenact a tank battle, basically."
Esme: "Well really big guns, when you think about it."
Max Thorn: "Where we were in the tanks."
Sam Spade: "We were in tanks piloted by pokemon. With Mr. Tommize."
Tim looks around.
Sam Spade: "It was the battle that he was shot in. I'm…kinda impressed he managed to live, but I suppose a mewtwo changes things."
Tim: "You think…maybe he was showing you someone elses' memories?"
Sam Spade sighs.
Sam Spade: "Here? When Madame Tommize flat out said it's the resting place of her husbands squadron mates?"
Tim nods.
Sam Spade: "Too many possibilities. Theirs, his own…"
Tim: "I was told he was looking for answers."
Max Thorn: "Probably was."
Sam Spade: "That makes sense. If he was pulling up their memories, then that'd make the scene extra-fresh in his mind."
Max Thorn: "I'm not real interested in reliving the past, though, unless it guides us to a better future."
Anna Tommize: I-I uh…
Esme pokes at the ground. "Not unheard of. Especially for a psychic-type."
Tim: "So…hold on, you said it was the one he was shot in?"
Sam Spade: "Well, we didn't get to that part."
Max Thorn: "We think it was, anyway."
Tim cocks his head. "But he was shot? He told me a mewtwo could protect its trainer from that."
Sam Spade: "But it was a logical conclusion, based on the fact that we left off with Mr. Tommize pointing a pistol at 'Ten,' who was a dead ringer for you, the fact that Mr. Tommize is still alive and wasn't killed by an angry mewtwo, and the fact that Moth has a bullet hole in the middle of his forehead."
Tim: "…what."
Sam Spade: "I wonder if Mr. Tommize had a crystal bullet, too?"
Sam Spade: "That 'third eye' he has going on? The one that made him go haywire when the tinfoil hat covered it?"
Tim: "A bullet hole?!? That's just a dimple!"
Max Thorn: "Takes a special bullet to go through a mewtwo's defense. One with a crystalline structure."
Sands facepalms.
Sam Spade: "That's a bullet scar. I did a lot of reading after my first encounter with Stormderp."
Tim: "But but but…"
Max Thorn: "…One presumably manufactured from shards."
Sam Spade: "And Sands agrees."
Max Thorn: "Which is *probably* what those tanks in Dojji are about."
Tim's jaw just hangs open.
Sam Spade: "Kinda makes him seem…even more badass, no? Walking around with the scar from where he was shot in the head…"
Tim blankly nods.
Esme: "They'd need violet shards for that though, since it was psychic-aligned." She frowns. "Though I guess given how they got them, there'd plenty of Dark and Ghost essence about…"
Sam Spade: "Um…"
Sam Spade: "…Anna…do you know how close we are to-"
Sam Spade: "…Never mind, we'd be very close."
Sam Spade: "We should probably pay our respects to your father's teammates, huh."
Max Thorn: "This is where they'd have fallen, I bet."
Sam Spade: "No, not where they'd have fallen. That was Dojji."
Sam Spade: "This is where he went to find them."
Sam Spade: "So they must be here."
None of the pillars are marked.
Max Thorn: "If you say so. I don't think these pillars are grave markers, though."
Max Thorn: "For one, they're not marked."
But immediately surrounding the party are beams that seem like they were made from the same steel as the tanks. Indeed, bits of tread…are these beams the melted down remnants of tanks?
Max Thorn: "I think my assertion was correct."
Sam Spade: "No, they're not grave markers."
Max Thorn points out the signs.
Sam Spade: "…They're memorials."
Sam Spade: "They don't have to be graves…"
[OOC] WC GM: Technology or Medicine Ed if you want to peer close and analyze.
Max Thorn rolled up 4d6: 13 (13) (Tech Ed)
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Sorry was pulled away
Anna Tommize frowns.
Max Thorn points. "There's a bone."
Anna Tommize pulls out a bit of tinfoil and, roughly and awkwardly, attempts to fashion a small tinfoil flower to put on the memorial.
Max Thorn: "A battle /was/ fought here."
Sam Spade: "But…"
Sam Spade: "…Oh. Oh, no."
Max Thorn: "Or, alternatively, the tanks were melted with occupants still inside. So…coffins, perhaps."
Sam Spade: "Well…That's not impossible."
Sam Spade: "Not with an angry mewtwo involved…"
Max Thorn: "Not all of the battles fought were in Dojji, after all."
Sam Spade: "Yeah…"
Sam Spade: "We won in Dojji…then we left. Thought we'd destroyed the whole thing, that's what I was taught in school. Then they came for us."
Max Thorn taps an inquiry into his pokédex, to confirm or deny his hypothesis.
There is no record of a battle having been fought in this area, during the Mewtwo Wars.
Max Thorn: "I suspect that we'll have to go through our journey to get the whole story, though…but the databanks *claim* no battle was fought here."
[OOC] Sam Spade: But what about the invasion of Amoda? Was there fighting south of Dojoholm?
[OOC] WC GM: That happened long after the MewTwo Wars.
Sam Spade: "When are you looking?"
[OOC] WC GM: During the Wars, no counterattack made it past Fort Blaston - at least, not by land.
Sam Spade: "Like I said, we didn't fight here in the Mew- well, what we thought of as the MewTwo Wars."
Sam Spade: "The Pokedex would confirm that, even if the MissingNo says that we're still embroiled in them, which becomes clear when you see Moth in action."
Max Thorn: "Checked the MewTwo Wars, although I could punch in a more generalized inquiry…" Which Max does. Were *any* battles fought here, *ever*, in recorded history?
Sam Spade: "But was there a battle here during the invasion of Amoda by Team Jaeger?"
Sam Spade: "Because burning someone alive in a tank…that'd be the act of someone who was still mad about what happened during the earlier battles. Say, someone who got shot in the head and gained the powers of a MewTwo."
Esme: "Or a good way to stop a tank, either way, really."
There have been battles throughout history. The top result on the list is a tournament due to start tomorrow.
Max Thorn immediately discards that one…
Or perhaps an exhibition match; the description is unclear.
[OOC] Max Thorn: You know what I'm looking for, anyway. And Max is smart enough to filter out the obviously-inappropriate ones. :p
[OOC] Sam Spade: That's not an inappropriate response, though. That's setup for next session, and how we earn our Gym Badges.
The Team Jaeger invasion of this area seems to have been primarily gun-to-hand. The guns won, though it was not a curbstomp.
Anna Tommize frowns.
Max Thorn: "…There's an exhibition match or tournament tomorrow. But no, the Jaegers' battles were mostly handheld firearms, not crew-served or mechanized."
Sam Spade: "So they could have transported the tanks here whole…"
Anna Tommize: "Yeah…"
Sam Spade kneels down next to one of the tanks, putting a hand flat against it and sighing.
Sam Spade: "So much pain…so much death…"
Sam Spade: "I wish our pokemon journeys could have been as simple as they're painted in the tales…"
Max Thorn: "So…you're probably right. Perhaps they took the fallen tanks here and melted them on the spot or so."
Sam Spade: "Well, I can tell Moth was in a lot of pain."
Sam Spade: "He was trying to show us how bad Amodans are…how much damage we did to Dojji."
Tim: "That's just how he always is."
Sam Spade: "But all he showed us was that we were so reluctant that we couldn't follow through on the things we did try to do."
Esme: "They."
Sam Spade: "If the people piloting these tanks could have used their own 'trainer hijack' shells, they'd have taken out Moth the way they did Seven - but they couldn't do it any more than we could, and they had more reason."
Max Thorn: "Don't own our parents' generation's issues. We weren't there, we couldn't have fought on either side."
Anna Tommize: "I wish we could just…m-make things better…"
Sam Spade grins sadly at Esme and Max.
Sam Spade: "You're right - but we're tarred by the same brush, and we were raised with the same values."
Sam Spade: "And Moth just showed us that we might have made the same decisions - even if those decisions weren't what he was trying to show us."
Max Thorn: "It's our job to make the world a better place, and we will. But I refuse to allow our parents' mistakes to become ours by association."
Esme tilts her head.
[OOC] Anna Tommize: Aww. Th'kids're alright.
Sam Spade: "In any case, I'm with you on that part, Max. It's still our job to make the world a better place."
Sam Spade drops an arm around Anna's shoulders.
Sam Spade: "So. Anything you want to say to the people who served with your father?"
Anna Tommize: "…"
Anna Tommize: "I-I…I'm sure you had your reasons…"
Anna Tommize: "A-and in a lot of ways, I-I know I owe things to them…"
Anna Tommize: "But…why were they even there, in the first place?"
Sam Spade eyes the twisted metal shells of the tanks. She knows that one. Not what happened to the tanks, but how it happened…and how it could have happened.
Sam Spade: "I'm sure we'll find out soon enough."
